Is seismic storage necessary for attic recoveries with a change of intended use but without carrying out structural works?

In the event that there is a change of intended use it is necessary to refer to paragraph 8.3 of the NTC2018 which states:

“Existing buildings must be subjected to safety assessment when even just one of the following situations occurs:
omission
-    change in the intended use of the building or parts of it, with significant variation in variable loads and/or transition to a higher use class;
omitted".

It follows that:

  • in the case of SCIA without structural works with change of intended use and/or significant change in variable loads, it is necessary to provide seismic storage pursuant to art. 93 without validity pursuant to art. 65 of the Presidential Decree 380/2001;
  • in the case of SCIA with structural works with change of intended use and/or significant change in variable loads, it is necessary to provide a deposit pursuant to art. 93 and complaint pursuant to art. 65.

In conclusion, it is always necessary to evaluate how the increase in load due to the change of intended use influences the classification of the intervention according to the chapter. 8.4 of the 2018 NTCs.
