What regulations must be respected for discharging domestic wastewater into the sewer?

Generally speaking, the reference legislation is always that in force at the time of construction of the building or of the modifications made or to be made to it. However, national regulations (Legislative Decree 152/2006) provide that the manager of the Integrated Water Service (therefore the municipal sewerage system) can introduce limits to the quality and quantity of wastewater discharged into the sewerage system.

For buildings existing on the date of approval of the current Building Regulations (2014) it is the sewerage Regulations in force since 1920, with the changes introduced by the Hygiene Regulations of the Municipality of Milan in 1994, taken up in the Building Regulations of 1999.

On 28 May 2012, the Integrated Water Service Regulation of the City of Milan was approved by the ATO of the city of Milan, now the ATO of the Metropolitan City of Milan, which follows the sewerage Regulation mentioned above, updated for the types of discharge and for receiving bodies to the Water Protection and Use Plan (PTUA - DGR n. 2244 of 29.03.2006).

The regulations described above are available on the institutional website of the Municipality of Milan on the page dedicated to the Private Sewerage Office.
