Plane snow and ice

In the event of snow and ice, the Municipal Operations Centre, a structure coordinated by the Civil Protection Directorate with the involvement of the Local Police, immediately activates AMSA for the following operations:

  • scattering of salt already in the event of snow accumulation on the roads below 5 cm and snow clearing from the streets in the event of snow above 5 cm.
    Priority is given to roads with high vehicular traffic both on the outskirts and in the centre, with particular attention for access to sensitive points such as hospitals and places of public interest. Roads with low vehicular traffic are discussed next;
  • cleaning pavements to access sensitive points such as hospitals/retirement homes and schools, public buildings and churches, theaters and cinemas, as well as public transport stops and cycle paths, areas of public markets and cemeteries, as well as sections of pavement where there are no concierge/house numbers;
  • snow removal and salt spreading on the avenues historic houses parks and public gardens, mainly on access roads to activities of public interest.

During and after snowfall, residents, property owners and businesses must:

  •  leave a free space of at least 2 meters from the front wall of the building and along its entire length, to avoid encouraging the formation of ice in front of the homes;
  • accumulate the snow along the roadside without invading the roadway and without obstructing the drains and road wells, to allow the water to drain away easily.

In case of frost they must spread anti-slip materials such as salt, sand or sawdust on the pavements.

In case of emergency for damage to things or people due to snow or ice call number 112.
