Acoustic classification of the territory

The acoustic classification of the municipal territory is the territorial governance tool responsible for protecting the external environment and the living environment from noise pollution.

  • consists of dividing the municipal territory into acoustically homogeneous areas
  • each homogeneous zone is associated with a specific acoustic class, among the six identified by the legislation, to which environmental noise limits and noise limits are attributed for each sound source
  • the criteria for the attribution of acoustic classes take into account the urban fabric and the infrastructural context and are adopted uniformly throughout the entire municipal territory
  • the assignment of acoustic classes pursues the objective of safeguarding sensitive areas and residential settlements from noise pollution, guaranteeing the carrying out of productive and commercial activities

The current acoustic classification can be consulted in the materials attached to this page or on the Geoportal of the Municipality of Milan.
