Milan, June 10 2021 – The traffic island in Viale Jenner, in the initial stretch of Piazzale Maciachini, has become a small green lung with a gushing fountain thanks to the intervention of Mapei, designed by landscape architect Franco Giorgetta. The project is part of the initiative of the Municipality of Milan "Care and adopt public greenery", which sees collaboration between the public and private sectors to keep Milan more beautiful and green.

"We thank the Squinzi family for proposing an intervention that regenerates a stretch of Viale Jenner crossed every day by many Milanese – declares the councilor for Urban and Green Planning Pierfrancesco Maran –. With the elimination of the aqueduct system we wanted to restore quality aesthetic and environmental aspects to the parterre and the project we are inaugurating today fully satisfies this need, demonstrating once again how the synergy between public and private is fundamental for the care of the city".

"We are very proud to have carried out this redevelopment project which we wish to dedicate to our mother Adriana and our father Giorgio who strongly wanted it - commented Veronica Squinzi, CEO of Mapei -. From them we learned that the company must have a active role within the community. We are very attached to Milan, the city that saw us born and grow. For us, we thank the Administration for its support has given us the opportunity to do so with this wonderful social responsibility initiative."

Based on a project by the landscape architect Franco Giorgetta, created by the Peverelli company, the space of approximately 700 m2, for years occupied by technical systems and car parks, is today a pleasant green area, characterized by plant species that adapt well to the shaded area of the plane trees. It was created following a geometric design formed by a series of triangular and trapezoidal figures of different colors obtained through the use of grasses and turfs of different and contrasting colours. Along the edges, in the spaces between the existing plane trees, long-leaved and long-stemmed grasses such as Pennisetum alopecuroides and Miscanthus sinensis were inserted, while a row of Festuca glauca was planted at the head. The picture is completed by a vertical gushing fountain, installed on a triangular platform and some very brightly colored flowering magnolias.

"It was a challenge, but we managed to make this car park flourish - commented the landscape architect Franco Giorgetta -. We hope that these constantly moving jets, the colors of the flowers and the soft movement of the long spikes of grass, can attract a moment of attention and give a smile to passers-by".
