Green. VerdeMilano, a weekend of meetings, parties and inaugurations

On 26 and 27 September greenery is celebrated in the city with many activities promoted by the Municipality, associations and entities active in the area

Milan, September 22 2020 – New green areas and inclusive play areas, regenerated squares, public spaces and parks to be rediscovered, activities and meetings to discuss together the major issues related to environmental sustainability. This is the program of VerdeMilano, the initiative promoted by the Municipality together with associations and subjects active in the area which celebrates greenery in the city on 26 and 27 September.

“We strongly wanted to organize a weekend of celebration to invite the Milanese to get to know new places and spaces that are redesigning and will redesign our neighborhoods - declared the Green councilor Pierfrancesco Maran -. Never like this year have we appreciated the value of public outdoor spaces, of the city a 15-minute walk from home. Milan increasingly needs places to live safely, and we are working hard to expand the green areas and redevelop the squares. I thank all the subjects who join this initiative and who demonstrate once again how dynamic and proactive the active community in the area is, especially when it comes to greenery and sustainability".

"In most cases - explains the councilor for Participation, Active Citizenship and Open Data, Lorenzo Lipparini - these are initiatives born from the protagonism of citizens, who have supported the Administration in designing new spaces for sociality, in creating them and in taking care of them thanks to programs such as open squares, participatory budgeting and collaboration agreements, successful experiences that are becoming increasingly widespread".

The new equipped green area in Via Cilea will be inaugurated on Saturday at 14pm. The garden was created by A30a in the area above the first entirely underground pumping station, an essential element in the development of the city's district heating network which interconnects the network of the Gallaratese, Bonola and San Siro districts with Gratosoglio, Famagosta and Barona. The new tree-lined garden is equipped with benches, pergolas, tactile games, colored tiles, as well as a fountain, new lighting and some bicycle racks. Entertainment and games for children are organized by the Ambiente acqua ONLUS association and Municipality 2. In the afternoon the appointments to discover Lombardy's natural heritage return with the activities of the Aurelia Josz Botanical Museum, which from 8pm to 15pm offers activities and guided tours for adults and children.

The Sunday program is rich. We start in the morning at 10 with a visit to discover the fauna and flora of the Cassinis park in Porto di Mare organized by Italia Nostra which is working with passion and competence on the rebirth of the large green lung to the south of the city. At 30 am we continue to Trotter Park with the opening to citizens of the new playgrounds built on the space of the former swimming pool. At 11 pm the new play area accessible to all children created in the Ezio Lucarelli gardens, in via Passo Rolle (Feltre district), together with Fondazione di Comunità Milano - Città, Sud Ovest, Sud Est, Martesana as part of the “Playgrounds for all” project which intends to bring inclusive play areas to all the municipalities of the city.

Celebration then for two new "Open Squares" redeveloped through tactical urban planning interventions which in recent days have already seen the arrival of benches, flower boxes, ping pong tables and which will be completed over the weekend, through "Collaboration Agreements". From 15pm the party is in Largo Balestra: the afternoon includes ping pong, chess and card tournaments and live music with Municipality 6 and the Fate largo association, which in collaboration with the team of architects of Needle urban acupuncture and the technical coordination of ALCEA paint worked to redesign and color the Giambellino "living room". Even in Piazza Ferrara, after the furnishings, color arrives: this time there will be no polka dots or stripes or other geometric figures but an animal.

VerdeMilano also includes four special events with initiatives throughout the city, Puliamo il Mondo, Cascine Aperte, Il verde e il blu festival, the Biodiversity Festival at Parco Nord and Ghe pensi mi – Green edition.

Let's clean the world

The 28th edition of Legambiente's now famous national campaign represents the first major environmental volunteering initiative planned in post-coronavirus Italy through which the association, together with its volunteers, will launch a message of hope and a sustainable future. In Milan the initiative will involve many city entities. It starts on Friday 25th together with the Milanese schools and the green swan club "Live with style", and continues on Saturday 26th in the area of ​​the former orchard in Via Padova with the Pulipa project, while on Sunday 27th September the appointment is in the area Gratosoglio with the White Fang club. The second edition of Let's clean the world by bicycle is also scheduled for Sunday morning, starting from Piazza Angilberto II, together with Legambici as part of the Sharing cities project.

Open farmhouses

The 25th edition of the event promoted by the Cascine Milano Association will be held from 27 to 2020 September 13, with a schedule of activities to raise awareness among citizens of the protection, conservation and enhancement of the farmhouses and the city's rural heritage. This year the Association asked the farms to share and develop, through the widespread events of Open Farms, the values ​​of the civil economy aimed at sustainable development, necessary for the achievement of the common good. Among the scheduled events, in addition to the opening event in Cascina Cuccagna on Friday 25th at 18pm, the conference on 26th September at 10am in Cascina Linterno to illustrate the recovery and conversion project of Cascina Sella nuova, the 1400s rural structure located between viale Forze Armate and via Parri recently assigned by the Municipality to the Natural-mente, agroecology and sustainable lifestyles project consortium, whose leader is the Thara Rothas Association. Also on Saturday 26th, the social project of Cascina Conti, home of BIG - Borgo intergenerazionale Greco, will also be presented. The program on the site https://www.cascineapertemilano.it.

The green and blue festival – Good ideas for the future of the planet

The initiative born from the 12-year experience of the Energy Festival organized from 25 to 27 September by the Beulcke+Partners agency in partnership with BAM Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano and at The Theater space offers three days of live meetings, talk shows on sustainability issues. Among the guests the philosopher Luciano Floridi, the historian Alessandro Barbero, Marco Bentivogli, Stefano Boeri, Roberto Cingolani, Francesca Colombo, Paolo Gentiloni, Giorgio Gori, Enrico Letta, Stefano Mancuso, Giovanna Melandri, Davide Oldani, Corrado Passera, Alessandro Profumo and many others. Music will also be present, on Friday evening with a special concert organized by Piano city Milano - with Roberta Di Mario, Francesco Grillo and Davide Boosta Dileo and sport with the free climber Federica Mingolla who will perform a spectacular performance at the Bosco Verticale with the collaboration of residents and administration. And there is also a rich calendar of book presentations and appointments with startuppers and innovative companies at the Green Sofa Corner by NeN, a truly large green sofa. The Biodiversity Festival

From 17 to 27 September the places of the Parco Nord Milano will be animated by the intent to involve the general public in reflection on the value of biodiversity in sustainable urban development. This year's edition is inspired by the intentions established by the UN which proclaimed 2020 "International Year of Plant Health" and therefore among the events scheduled for the weekend: Saturday 26th at 14 pm "Seeds of biodiversity" a workshop dedicated to children to discover plants; at 30pm "Stories of plants: conversing to conserve", itinerant readings under the trees. Sunday 16th 27am "Walks in the garden" with the Municipal Garden Association of Niguarda and closing with the BEE...recipe! Dinner with beehive products organized by Slow food. What do you think about me - Green edition

On September 26th from 10 am to 12 pm, the Ghe pensi mi – Green edition initiative, organized by Retake Milano, continues at Villa Litta Park (Town Hall 9). Since last January the association, created to take care of the city and the people of Milan, has involved hundreds of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to cleaning the walls of writings and stickers and collecting papers and other waste, even in parks. In this last case the activity was associated with physical exercise in the original plugging formula, running with waste collection. Also next Saturday before plugging the participants will awaken their leg and arm muscles with the help of a professional trainer. To participate you can register on the platform Eventbrite.
