More greenery and space for pedestrians, new paving and inclusive games at Bovisa

Milan, September 15 2020 – The plan to enhance the squares in the neighborhoods continues. The redevelopment works of Piazza Schiavone, in Bovisa, started today. The intervention involves the reconfiguration of the square, now divided into a tree-lined part and a paved part, through the demolition of the existing stairways and walls. The flowerbeds will be expanded, bringing the green surface from the current 983 to 1.525 square meters and the 24 existing trees will be safeguarded, with the root system of a paulownia tree which is raising a portion of the paving being made safe.

Greenery is also arriving in the currently paved part, where 16 new tall trees will be planted which will guarantee an increase in shaded and usable areas, counteracting the heat island. A new flooring with high draining capacity is also planned, with the creation of pedestrian paths that will improve usability within the green area.

Finally, the area dedicated to children will be expanded with the addition of a new inclusive game, swings and spring games. Over the summer, the project was partially revised, in light of the neighbourhood's observations, involving the placement of an evergreen hedge between the play area and the homes overlooking the square, in order to create an anti-noise barrier. The restyling will last approximately 3 months for a total cost of 200.000 euros.
