Green. The flowering meadows of Milan are oases of biodiversity, color and beauty for residents and tourists

Milan, May 14 2022 – With the arrival of the summer, the flowering meadows planted by the Municipality of Milan appear in the city.

From viale Elvezia to piazza Grandi passing through via Quarenghi and corso Europa up to the Sandro Pertini roundabout, near the Biblioteca degli Alberi area in the Garibaldi area, in the Forlanini and Formentano parks as well as via Ripamonti and via dei Missaglia, these areas are always more.

Points of color that will increase even more, to the delight of people, residents or tourists, who stop to photograph these spring explosions.
It's not just about beauty: these places are true oases of biodiversity, favorite places for pollinating insects whose survival is precious.

Maintenance of flowering meadows is minimal and requires one or two mowings during the summer months, the seeds bloom again every year without the need for new sowing. Thus it is increasingly easy to come across meadows dotted with poppies, cornflowers and other wildflowers.

To date, there are 53 flowered areas throughout the city territory created by the Municipality in recent years with different floral species: poppies, linum, dimorphotheca, saponaria, cornflower and many others.

The success of the sowing project started a few years ago by the Administration was unpredictable. It was precisely the townspeople who decreed the success of the operation. Now all that remains is to continue on this path: perhaps searching in every open, and sometimes slightly neglected, space for the sense of beauty and nature.
