Green. The management of the Parco Biblioteca degli Alberi has been entrusted to COIMA - through the Riccardo Catella Foundation

The company that participated in the Municipality's tender will take care of the entertainment, maintenance and safety of the park

Milan, June 22 2019 – Coima SGR Spa (as sponsor), through the Riccardo Catella Foundation (as manager) will be responsible for the next 10 years - with an integrated team of skills - with the safety, maintenance and creation of a cultural entertainment program ,  for the Parco Biblioteca degli Alberi - these last two services have already been partially guaranteed by COIMA since the inauguration of the park, which took place last October, to date. The Municipality of Milan signed a contract with the company, which had presented a sponsorship proposal which was subsequently put out to tender and subjected to the consequent negotiation phase.

“With this agreement we guarantee, at zero cost to the public coffers, a high quality of maintenance and management of a park which in just a few months has entered the hearts of Milanese people and tourists – declares the councilor for Urban and Green Planning Pierfrancesco Maran - . The Tree Library is new in the panorama of city parks, not only for the evident design complexity that makes it so evocative and appreciated, but also because it represents the first example of a large green area without a fence. It is therefore essential that the care and supervision of the park, together with its entertainment, are at the highest levels, and we are convinced that Coima and the Foundation will be able to offer an optimal standard. Agreements like this, more generally, allow us to have high-quality management for new parks, which are particularly expensive, and to concentrate public resources on those for which it is difficult to find partners and investors."

“Italy and the rest of the world are going through a historical moment of profound changes which give us the opportunity to start again from culture and ethics. - declares Manfredi Catella, Founder and CEO of COIMA SGR -. The country needs Italian companies with people ready to get involved with commitment and passion to restart our economy. With this spirit we have undertaken the commitment to manage a symbolic public space where the community can also gather to express and share values and new models of behavior. The Library of Trees becomes a pilot project, a synthesis of nature and community and it is precisely from here that our proposal to the Municipality and citizens of Milan to develop the largest national and international green infrastructure will start by the end of the year".

Fondazione Catella, after having composed a dedicated team of qualified professionals, undertakes, on behalf of Coima, to carry out maintenance activities aimed at maintaining the green spaces and walkways within the park, ensuring high-level quality standards. The sponsor will be able to monitor physical, environmental or climatic data using specific new generation instruments. The Foundation will also take care of the surveillance of the park, through a mobile garrison, as well as using the Video Surveillance System which will be created in the future by the Municipality. The cameras will be connected to the Local Police Operations Centre, which will be able to use them to carry out activities to prevent and repress any crimes, while the sponsor and the company in charge of the security service will only have images that do not allow the identification of the interested parties but which can be used for studies relating to access flows in the park.

Fondazione Riccardo Catella will also create a cultural entertainment program within the park, shared with the Municipality, aimed at enhancing the botanical richness and offering citizens cultural experiences and raising their awareness of respect for greenery, making it a lively and attractive place. In particular, initiatives of a cultural, musical, sports, social-aggregational nature, including those of a commercial nature, may be carried out, including food and drink administration activities, also with the installation of mobile structures. The sponsor will be able to create some structures and a Temporary Pavilion to host activities, events and demonstrations, as well as a refreshment point with toilets. The Sponsor also offered to implement the WiFI system to guarantee a high standard of use for park users.

The maintenance and entertainment project of the Library of Trees will be extended to some pedestrian areas outside the green area (approximately 3.500 mXNUMX), called "Event Spaces", which in exchange for an annual financial fee will be granted for exclusive use to the sponsor. In this way, on the one hand the exploitation of the park areas will be reduced, on the other, in line with the non-profit approach of the project, the possibilities of income necessary for the sponsor to cover the costs of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance will be increased, as well as increasing the prestige and quality of the educational animation program, with social and sporting aggregation purposes.

The Park, designed by the Inside Outside|Petra Blaisse studio of Amsterdam, was created by COIMA which, in June 2015, took over from the Municipality of Milan in implementing the works as an intervention to be carried out to offset the large urban planning project of Porta Nuova.
