Safety. Vaiano Valle, illicit waste trafficking stopped in the illegal Roma camp

Two people reached by expulsion order from the Region

Milan, 4 December 2021 - Two expulsion measures from the Region, notified to SS (born 1969) and SS (1966), both born in Montenegro, are the result of an investigation by the local police in the illegal gypsy camp in via Vaiano Valle for illicit burning of waste aimed at putting an end to an irregular collection, storage, abandonment, disposal and sale activity that was carried out in the area in an organized way.

The measure was notified to the suspects in recent days when the State Police, Carabinieri and local police carried out a joint blitz in the via Vaiano Valle camp to stop the illicit activity.

The local police investigation began following a complaint from a citizen who had seen nighttime bonfires and significant van traffic. Surveillance of via Vaiano Valle therefore began at the beginning of the year.

"We keep our attention high on all areas subject to illegal occupation and degradation - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Security -. A few days ago we intervened on viale Molise, now on via Vaiano Valle where an illicit activity was also taking place which, thanks to the The intervention of the local police was blocked. I would also like to thank the citizens who report and denounce irregularities, this allows us to control the territory even better and restore legality."

The illicit traffic, directed and organized by the two people subject to the provision, was concentrated mainly during the night hours and during the observation period the local police were able to see that some vans, not belonging to people from the camp, entered and approached the home of the two subjects and the load was immediately sorted at the edge of the inhabited area, separating the undifferentiated goods (mattresses, wood, sofas, etc.) from household appliances and iron, a profitable object for resale. The bonfires were set to 'dispose' of the undifferentiated part in order to obtain new pieces of iron and eliminate at least part of unsellable waste. The 'precious' part of the waste, the ferrous one, was then stored in some sheds, real warehouses, always at the edge of the field. The rest was moved with hand wheelbarrows towards the outside of the illegal settlement area, accumulating.

There are at least four incidents detected by the local police during three months of assiduous surveillance of the camp, due to the darkness it was not possible to identify all the people involved but the two SS men always appear in coordinating the illicit operations, from the arrival of the vans at the time the fires are set. The illicit activity had the advantage of double income, on the one hand the collection of waste and on the other the resale of the collected material.
