Maran: “Let's consolidate Milan's university vocation and promote the regeneration of the city's neighborhoods while preserving their historical characteristics”

Milan, March 28 2021 – The Council approved two resolutions relating to the redefinition of the State University's activities into Città Studi and the regeneration of the Bovisa area, destined to host an excellent campus of the Polytechnic surrounded by greenery.

“On the one hand we want to consolidate Milan's university vocation and contribute to promoting its excellence in the world - declares the councilor for Urban and Green Planning Pierfrancesco Maran -, on the other we intend to promote a process of urban regeneration of two neighborhoods of the city , preserving its historical characteristics and guaranteeing public direction to the development process".

With the first provision, the Council approved the guidelines for the signing, with the Lombardy Region and the University of Milan, of the Memorandum of Understanding for the valorisation and relaunch of "Città Studi" as a hub of right to study services, tertiary training, research and innovation in view of the transfer of some departments to the Mind area. The protocol, which highlights the State's commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the neighbourhood, is aimed at defining a plan for the reuse of the properties present in Città Studi which will be left vacant, providing for the establishment of library structures, research laboratories, places of innovation and university residences, respecting the historical interest of some of the properties in the areas, an example of which is the Biology headquarters, a distinctive work by the architect Vico Magistretti and testimony to the fertility of Lombard culture and architecture.

With a further resolution, the Council approved the technical and economic feasibility project relating to the reclamation of the last lot of the Bovisa-Gasometers area, for an amount of 3,6 million euros. The intervention, drawn up by MM SPA, will allow the reclamation work to be completed in the area in which the Polytechnic will create a park for the students and residents of the neighbourhood. As foreseen by the framework agreement signed with the Polytechnic for the valorisation of the area through the creation of a Campus of excellence, in the future the Gasometer Park will be connected to the Goccia Park through a network of green and pedestrian spaces, for a total of approximately 215.000 mXNUMX of greenery. In the coming months the University will be able to take action to make the already reclaimed lot usable by equipping it for leisure and sport, and to repurpose the two Gasometers, historic buildings of cultural interest.
