The act precedes the approval of the variant by the City Council expected in the next few days

Milan, May 18 2021 – The Santa Giulia neighborhood will finally be completed with the creation of new services for citizens, important road infrastructures for the area and the PalaItalia, a key structure of Milan-Cortina 2026.

The supplementary deed to the Montecity-Rogoredo program agreement was signed today by the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region, Milano Santa Giulia SpA and Esselunga SpA, which precedes the approval of the variant by the City Council expected in the next few days, and it allows the northern part of the neighborhood to be developed, returning to the city a new area transformed, redeveloped and reclaimed after decades of industrial activity and complete abandonment.

"The completion of Santa Giulia, which will be possible thanks to today's signature and the approval of the variant by the City Council in the next few days, is a commitment that the Administration has made with the city to finally heal a wound and create new services, mobility infrastructures and a large public park – declares the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala -. We are in the south-eastern quadrant of Milan, the one that will change the most in the coming years, not only because it will host two strategic structures of the Olympics, the PalaItalia in Santa Giulia and the Olympic Village in Porta Romana, but because public and private investments are being concentrated here which will lead to widespread regeneration, to the benefit of the whole city".

The variant involves the planivolumetric reorganization of the area with a remodulation of services for the neighborhood. In addition to the construction of the PalaItalia, which will host ice hockey competitions in 2026, an equipped park of approximately 362.000 m will be built2, new schools of all levels, a museum for children, a new headquarters of the Conservatory, residences (ers, subsidized and free buildings) and commercial activities, offices and neighborhood shops. The supplementary deed also confirms the creation of an important public transport infrastructure, the tram connection between the Rogoredo station and the future M4 Forlanini station.
