Milan, October 4 2019 – The Council has adopted the MIND-Milan innovation district integrated intervention plan presented by Arexpo SpA concerning the area used for the 2015 universal exhibition. The proposed regeneration of the site, which expands over a surface area of 1.044.102 m85 ( XNUMX% of which falls within the territory of the Municipality of Milan and the remainder in Rho), provides for the establishment of three important public functions - the new IRCCS Galeazzi hospital centre, work on which is already underway, the research center for the Life Sciences Human technopole and the State University Campus.

To guarantee continuity between the different interventions there will be a large technological scientific theme park of 650.000 m13.183, equal to over half the surface area of the area, destined to become a place of meeting and interaction between the future inhabitants and users of the new district. A system of thematic areas will unfold along the Decumanus: the green-blue park, characterized by the presence of the network of canals already present, the food/health park around the Cascina Triulza, the sector dedicated to sport and entertainment and the iconic Mediterranean hill already present on the site. Decumanus and Cardo will also be the epicenters of a system of large "green squares" connected to each other. Approximately 67.000 new trees will be added to the 2015 trees and over 3.500 shrubs planted for Expo XNUMX.

“The regeneration of the former Expo area is one of the pieces of the development of Milan 2030 – declares the councilor for Urban Planning Pierfrancesco Maran –. MIND is an ambitious plan, which will bring new international excellence to our territory and a large green lung in continuity with the Cascina Merlata and Farini parks. It will also be a place of experimentation and innovation from the point of view of driverless mobility."

The project confirms the infrastructural elements that have already structured the layout of the Expo Area, with the maintenance of the Decumanus, the Cardo, the perimeter road ring and the secondary and tertiary routes. Furthermore, to ensure high accessibility to the area, in September the representatives of the Scali Ferroviari, Expo and Cascina Merlata Program Agreements approved the Memorandum of Understanding to create an additional railway stop to that already envisaged by the Scali AdP (Stephenson stop ) at the walkway connecting the MIND-Milan Innovation District and Cascina Merlata areas.

In addition to the three large public functions, which will be located on 317.000 m90.000 of gross flooring area, the Plan envisages allocating 15.000 m30.250 of gross floor area to the residential function, 305.000 m35.000 to the hospitality sector, 30.000 mXNUMX to the productive sector, XNUMX mXNUMX to the tertiary and office sectors, XNUMX mXNUMX of commercial space with neighborhood businesses and medium-sized sales structures. The Implementing Body also undertakes to create a quota of no less than XNUMX mXNUMX of social housing, including in the form of university residences. As per the regulation, today's adoption of the Plan will be followed by a period of publication and collection of any observations from third parties, after which the Council will finally be able to approve the intervention.
