Ukraine. The Municipality has provided 200 places for the initial reception of refugees

The guidelines for a partnership with the Prefecture have been approved, the facilities of Casa Jannacci and via Aldini are available

Milan, March 15 2022 – The Municipality of Milan will make available up to 200 places in initial reception facilities to host Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war. This is what is established in a collaboration agreement that will be signed with the Prefecture and for which the Council approved the guidelines today, during an extraordinary session.

Legislative decree no. 16 of 28 February 2022 regulates specific measures to address the exceptional reception needs that emerged following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Prefecture and the Municipality, to implement what has been established by the Government, therefore intend to implement a partnership on the basis of which the Administration undertakes to make available, for now, up to 200 places for the first reception.

The first places identified are Casa Jannacci, the historic municipal dormitory in viale Ortles 69 within which an entire 68-seat pavilion has already been used for two weeks to host Ukrainian refugees, and the structure in via Aldini 74, which has long been dedicated to housing emergency and the reception of the homeless. If the numbers require it, the Municipality and Prefecture will evaluate the possibility of dedicating other properties to the emergency.

The Municipality also undertakes to support reception with social and educational support actions for families, allocating a first tranche of resources equal to 900.000 euros for this purpose.

"We must be ready – declares the councilor for Welfare and Health Lamberto Bertolé – to face significant flows of people fleeing from war and, in addition to the initial reception, it is necessary to guarantee support to the most difficult people, those with disabilities and to minors not It is therefore necessary to act on both fronts by organizing structures capable of hosting significant numbers of people for short periods and by moving quickly to strengthen the social services that accompany and assist vulnerable people the foundations from the first days of the conflict and which he wants to continue to carry forward as long as necessary".
