The increase in tourists continues: +17% compared to the same month of 2018

Milan, October 18 2019 – September was the first month of 2019 in which tourists in the urban area of Milan exceeded one million (1.028.013), recording a growth of 17% compared to the same month last year, when visitors were 877.829.

“Fashion Week and the Monza Grand Prix, without forgetting the other thematic weeks - from Green Week to Bike City, from Calcio City to Pet Week -, the exhibitions, the Duomo, La Scala and the celebrations for the fifth centenary of his death by Leonardo: no matter which initiative has received the most attention - comments Mayor Giuseppe Sala -, certainly all together they have contributed to bringing over a million tourists to Milan and the metropolitan area in just one month. An important achievement which confirms and reinforces the attractiveness of Milan and which makes us particularly proud".

As regards the type of visitors, singles are still the most frequent category of tourists, with 511.417 presences, and for the most part they belong to an age group between 31 and 45 years, 317.053.

“An exceptional result – declares Roberta Guaineri, Councilor for Tourism –, which rewards the commitment of the municipal administration in promoting the city on an international level, also through our agency YesMilano. Milan today is among the most sought-after global destinations thanks to its extraordinary artistic, architectural and monumental heritage and to the many proposals organized by the Municipality in collaboration with private individuals and sector associations to enhance the excellence of the territory, such as culture, fashion, design, food and sport".
