Public transport. Protocol signed between the Municipality and the Armed Forces to enhance safety on public transport

Milan, January 31 2022 – The protocol between the Municipality of Milan and the Armed Forces which will allow uniformed soldiers to travel for free on the city's public transport network to ensure greater safety and compliance with the rules.

With this protocol, the three-month trial started in 2022 continues for 2021, which allows free circulation to Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers in uniform belonging to the Armed Forces Corps (Italian Army, Navy and Air Force). on the Milanese public transport network.

The objective of the protocol is to implement security on local public transport vehicles and in metro stations and in this sense the presence of Army, Navy and Air Force soldiers constitutes an effective safeguard. The military will also be able to provide, if necessary, assistance to the on-board personnel for identity checks or for interventions to restore public order.

"The Municipality and ATM have always been committed to guaranteeing safety on public transport – explained Councilor Censi – and the presence of soldiers on board allows us to increase the safety precautions and citizens' sense of protection. For this reason we have given a positive opinion last year's experimental initiative and we have chosen to propose it again for 2022".

At the end of the event, after the signing of the Roll of Honour, General Miro wanted to give Councilor Censi a copy of the "Calendassociazione 2022", which this year is dedicated to the "skills of the Army for citizen safety ".
