Public transport. The new tariff system and tariff integration starts on Monday

Annual subscription at the same price and in installments. Free for children up to 14 years old and for pets. Multiple stamping in the subway

Milan, July 13 2019 – The new tariff system starts on Monday 15 July and changes public transport in greater Milan for 4,2 million citizens and 213 Municipalities.

These are the main innovations: the single ticket which goes from 1,50 to 2 euros, can be stamped several times within 90 minutes even on the subway, will be valid over a larger area, not only in Milan but also in the 21 municipalities previously range, including Rho Fiera, Sesto San Giovanni, Rozzano, San Donato, Bresso, Bollate, Segrate, Cinisello Balsamo, Vimodrone, Cesano Boscone, Corsico, Settimo Milanese, Novate, Cologno Monzese, Peschiera Borromeo. For families, a 50% discount on the cost of the annual subscription for parents with three dependent children. The ticket and all season tickets will also be valid on Trenord trains, throughout the metropolitan city of Milan and Monza and Brianza.

FREE
Free transport service up to 14 years of age, to provide concrete help to families. The subscription is also free for over 65s with an ISEE of less than 16 thousand euros. Teachers (one for every 10 children) who accompany school groups on trips will be able to travel free of charge. The free will also be applied to pets.

YOUNG
The cost of the reduced season ticket remains unchanged for young people, who will be able to benefit from it up to the age of 27 instead of 26; Furthermore, the benefits are extended up to 30 years with ISEE under 28 thousand euros (monthly and annually at 22 and 200 euros respectively) at an unchanged price compared to today. Concrete help to those who today have more difficulty entering the world of work.
Another novelty is also dedicated to young people: up to the age of 27, for those who have public transport season tickets, the cost of the BikeMi season ticket drops from 29 to 12 euros; from 28 years old the cost goes from 29 to 24 euros.

For everyone, starting from the introduction of the new tariff system, it will be possible to "load" the BikeMi subscription onto the ATM card, completely integrating the two services.

OVER 65
Facilities on season tickets for over 65s with ISEE income between 16 and 28 thousand euros: the cost of the annual pass will be 200 euros. Even more convenient is the new 'Senior Off Peak' which, at the same cost, will be available on the surface from the start of service (and not just from 9.30), everywhere and always even on weekends and will be available to everyone aged 65 and over and for pensioners aged 60 and over.

DISCOUNTS
An annual subscription of 50 euros is introduced for people with an ISEE of less than 6 thousand euros, for the unemployed with an ISEE of less than 16.900 euros and for prisoners on work permit outside the place of detention.

Some concrete examples: from Monday a Milanese family will have discounts ranging between 19% and 42% compared to the current tariff, if they reside in the metropolitan city and in the Province of Monza and Brianza the discount is between 15% and 26%. Today 2.000 Milanese families spend 200 euros a year on a season ticket for their child who goes to middle school but from 15 July they will have the free "under 14" card, meaning a net saving of 200 euros. Outside Milan there is the new 25% discount for season tickets up to 26 years of age for families for each child in high school or university. In Milan there are 16.000 families with 3 children: from 15 July families will spend 165 euros on their annual subscription, therefore 50% less. The Milanese family with 2 parents, 1 child in middle school, 1 in high school and 1 in university, even in foster care, for the 2019-2020 school year will spend only 5 euros per year for the 730 season tickets, and no longer 1.260 euros how he spent in the 2018-2019 school year: 530 euros saved equal to 42%.

Tickets purchased and not used before Monday 15 July can be used until 12 October and current season tickets are valid until the end of their validity.

“We have carried out a profound reform of the tariff system in favor of those who choose public transport – declares Marco Granelli, councilor for Mobility and Public Works –. We are investing in the development of the network, even in the face of fewer resources from the Government and the Region, and we are keeping the quality of the service high. With this reform, although the cost of a single ticket has increased, we have protected workers, commuters, families, young people and the elderly more than tourists and occasional users. An efficient, fast, widespread collective transport network with fair fares over an increasingly wider territory is the answer to the growing need for mobility of citizens and users and to the need to improve the quality of the air we breathe".
