Public transport. Elderly people, doctors, people with disabilities, vouchers from the Municipality for discounted taxi rides

Between 21pm and 6am women will also be able to travel at discounted rates

Milan, August 3 2020 – Through the use of vouchers, the Administration has decided to facilitate the use of taxis for doctors and nurses, elderly people over 65 with particular frailties, people over 70, people with 100% disability and women who must travel in the evening between 21pm and 6am.

The provision also responds to the need to identify functional measures to deal with the health emergency and the critical issues deriving from the increase in traffic, in environmental and congestion terms, supporting and strengthening the use of all forms of alternative transport to private vehicles.

Taxis, with particular reference to certain categories of users who require greater attention, respond perfectly to this need and to encourage their use, starting from August and until next November, vouchers will be introduced for a total value of 700 thousand euros which also have the aim of relaunching and supporting this service, which has been particularly affected by the crisis caused by the Covid-19 emergency.

"We want to come to the aid of particular categories of people - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility - who need to travel easily. Today we must strengthen all alternative transport methods to private cars which take up a lot of space and are often polluting, to combat congestion from private traffic and meet the difficulties that taxis have today in a city that has a lower influx of tourists. For this reason we have made this contribution available thanks also to the decision of the City Council to allocate part of the Mutual Aid Fund for this very purpose."

In particular, beneficiaries of the vouchers are private adults resident in Milan, falling into one of the following categories, which may be cumulative: over 70 residents, people with disabilities (100% disability), women traveling during the night time slot (21pm - 06am). ), doctors and nurses working in hospital facilities in the Municipality of Milan as well as at the San Raffaele and Humanitas hospitals only for the home/work journey or vice versa, over 65s in a fragile situation, based on the evaluation of the Social Policies Directorate.

The voucher corresponds to a contribution towards the purchase of a taxi ride up to a maximum of 10 euros with payment made by credit card, debit card (ATM) or prepaid card in the name of the person who requested it, up to the maximum limit of 10 trips in total for disabled people with 100% disability and doctors and nurses.

The contribution will be equal to the total cost of the taxi ride for people over 65 and 100% disabled people in particularly fragile situations, according to the evaluation of the Social Policies Directorate. As regards the contribution for those over 70 years of age and women who travel between 21pm and 6am, the contribution is always a maximum of 10 euros for each taxi ride - made with credit card, debit card ( debit card) or prepaid card in the name of the applicant - with a maximum limit of 8 total journeys for the period of validity of the benefit, between August and November.

The voucher is distributed electronically to all individuals who request it as long as they certify that they possess the necessary requirements by completing an online form, available in the next few days on the Municipality's portal. Vouchers will be issued based on the chronological order of request and until available funds are exhausted. The contribution to cover the voucher will then be paid directly to the taxi drivers following reporting of the trip made.

Requests will be accepted based on the chronological order in which applications are submitted and until available funds are exhausted.
