Milan, May 17 2021 – The commitment of the municipal administration continues to implement operational proposals aimed at decongesting public transport, desynchronizing timetables and better organizing time in the city and workplaces due to the new needs imposed by the Covid emergency . It was signed today by the Councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce Cristina Tajani and Renato Galliano, Director of Urban Economy and Work of the Municipality, with the President of the Milan Smart city alliance Gioia Ghezzi and the General Director of Assolombarda Alessandro Scarabelli, the collaboration agreement between the Municipality of Milan and the Assolombarda Foundation for the provision of private workplaces to be used for smart working for Administration employees.

The protocol was signed in the presence of the Minister of Labor and Social Policies Andrea Orlando, during his visit to the city to meet the various protagonists of work and the productive world.

"After a long year in which remote working implied domestic confinement due to Covid-19 – declared councilor Tajani –, with the new Operational Plan for Agile Work (POLA) we take a significant step forward in favor of workers and a better organization of the city's time. Thanks to the signing of this protocol and the collaboration with the Assolombarda companies who will make their equipped spaces available to the Municipality's employees, we could achieve a triple objective: decongesting public transport by limiting the transfers periphery-centre, improve work-life balance by saving time and polluting emissions; promote the vitality of neighborhoods, thus contributing to the development of a truly polycentric and inclusive city".

"With the signing of this agreement we want to give a concrete signal of the ability of the public-private sector to create a system for the benefit of the territory and the community – declared Gioia Ghezzi, vice-president of Assolombarda and President of the Milan Smart city alliance –. This is a pilot initiative which, at the moment, involves the employees of the Municipality of Milan and which we hope will soon involve many other entities to create a real community of companies that share this new approach to agile working through shared smartworking spaces. An innovative approach which has positive impacts on environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life of workers.

Among the various objectives pursued by the protocol, relating to the research and development of innovative and technologically advanced solutions consistent with the development of a Smart city for the benefit of workers, the business world and the Public Administrations, the experimental implementation of the project stands out " Smart working community", with the aim of identifying and making available work spaces in which to host employees of companies belonging to the community and employees of the Municipality of Milan in order to reduce home-work travel, encourage a better work-life balance and limit the possibilities of exposure to contagion.

The establishment of the "Smart working community" project is in continuity with the desire of the Municipality and public and private stakeholders to redesign a "city 15 minutes away" capable of enhancing not only the realities and services present in the different neighborhoods but, above all, respond to changes imposed by the pandemic such as remote working. A change, that of remote working, which involved people, spaces, managerial culture and tools necessary for work performance. A path of profound transformation of the organization of work which required important investments in technology and innovation to connect people, spaces and work groups, together with strategic approaches that also leverage joint initiatives and collaboration between the Administration and the private world. The testing of the project will continue until 31 December 2021 and will not entail any burden for the Municipality of Milan.
