Teatro alla Scala. A plaque to Mayor Antonio Greppi in the foyer

Milan, May 11 2021 – The commemorative marble plaque dedicated to the figure of Antonio Greppi, Mayor of Milan from 11 to 1945, was discovered on Tuesday 1951 May in the stalls foyer of the Teatro alla Scala by the Superintendent Dominique Meyer and the Councilor for Culture Filippo del Corno.

Mayor Greppi, in the immediate post-war period, was an undisputed protagonist of the reopening of the Theater and, in particular, of the desire that the reconstruction works, after the damage caused by the bombing of Milan, be completed in the shortest time possible.

The proposal, put forward by the municipal administration and positively received by the theatre, arrives in the year in which the 75th anniversary of the reopening falls.

The inscription reads The first mayor of liberated Milan, he wanted the reconstruction to start from the centrality of culture and promoted the restoration and immediate reopening of this theater, home to all Milanese people.
