Summer school. Summer centres, oratories, public and private operators: from the Municipality a map for the summer of children and teenagers

Milan, May 22 2020 – The Municipality of Milan will promote a Summer school for the creation of recreational and growth activities for Milanese children and young people during the summer months.

The objective of the Administration, which today approved the policy documents, is to create a mapping of the initiatives proposed by the educational, cultural and sporting realities of the Municipality of Milan, by the private operators who operate in agreement with the Administration, by the speakers and from other public and private institutions. In this way, families will be able to more easily identify the offer that best meets their needs in terms of proposal, interest and location.

In line with the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of 17 May, which provides for the possibility of carrying out this type of activity, the calendar of the Milan Summer school will cover the months of June, July and August. To involve interested parties, the Municipality will launch a 'call' to which operators will be able to respond by presenting the Administration with a proposal consistent with the guidelines attached to the Prime Ministerial Decree of 17 May.

Spaces and green areas may also be made available free of charge to operators to organize initiatives for children and adolescents, through specific selective procedures, also promoted by municipalities.

Having checked the offers on the map, families will be able to contact the promoters of the activities directly, as well as register for the services offered directly by the Municipality.
The Council has in fact also approved the guidelines for the creation of the 2020 summer centers dedicated to minors in primary and special schools which will take place, from 29 June to 7 August, in 41 locations identified among the city's school complexes.

In preparing the rankings for access to municipal summer centres, in consideration of the emergency situation, the Council has facilitated children with both working parents with a higher score. In any case, priority will be assigned to families residing in the Municipality of Milan.

Even for activities not managed directly by the Municipality, if the applications exceed the number of places available, selection criteria must be established which take into account, for example, the user's disability, the fragility of the family unit, but also the parents' work commitment.

“The city - explains Education Councilor Laura Galimberti - starts again and also thinks about children, their entertainment and the socialization denied in these months of health emergency. Health remains a priority and everyone's responsibility will help the success of each project, but the Council has committed itself to the Mayor to be able to offer families a variety of opportunities, with a strong direction for the proposals of public and private operators who they are the fabric of the city. We do not want to cut services to families, even in this period of unprecedented budget difficulty, we will therefore offer municipal summer centres, a significant piece of the great map of the Summer school, with particular attention to the most fragile children and the work of parents" .
