Statistics. The permanent Istat census will start on 1 October
Milan, September 30 2021 – The permanent population and housing census carried out by Istat in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan will start tomorrow, Friday 1 October.
Since 2018, the National Institute of Statistics has recorded, on an annual basis and no longer every ten years, the main characteristics of the population and its social and economic conditions at a national, regional and local level.
The sample of families will be involved in the Census through two types of surveys: Area, which will involve around 2.500 families, and List, which will involve around 4.200.
In the first case, starting tomorrow, Friday 1st October, and until Wednesday 13th October, a surveyor from the Municipality of Milan will carry out a first pass through the sample addresses, putting up the posters and distributing the information letters in the mailboxes.
Subsequently, starting from 14 October, the families will receive a visit at their home from an inspector from the Municipality of Milan, who will have to show an identification card with name and photograph and deliver a letter introducing the investigation. The surveyor will communicate to the families the different methods of completing the questionnaire, explaining that the collection of information can take place by completing the questionnaire at their home or at the municipal collection center (CCR), in via Bergognone 30 (with a face-to-face interview or self-compilation in the presence of the municipal operator or the surveyor).
The second type of survey will start on Monday 4 October: Istat has extracted a sample of families from the Municipality's registry lists who will receive an information letter with the credentials to proceed with completing the questionnaire online.
The permanent population census is one of the surveys with an obligation to respond and all the information collected is guaranteed by law in terms of protection and confidentiality.
