Sport. Volleyball invades Milan with Volley Week

From 14 to 23 June, two weekends of major sporting events, demonstrations and activities for everyone

Milan, June 3 2019 – The Italian beach volleyball championship with its first stage, the three matches of the men's national team involved in the Volleyball Nations League and, in between, the great volleyball festival in Piazza Gae Aulenti with many events and initiatives: from 14 to 23 June, Milan Volley Week will make the Lombard capital the center of gravity of Italian volleyball for ten days.

The event takes up the now consolidated tradition of open events that take place in Milan, such as the Fuori Salone or the Food Week, to bring fans and enthusiasts to Largo Beltrami to follow the first stage of the Italian Beach Volleyball Championship and to the new Palalido, now AllianzCloud in Piazza Stuparich, for the matches of the Volleyball Nations League which will see the Italian men's national team engaged against the superpowers of international volleyball: Poland, Serbia and Argentina.

For everyone, citizens and tourists, it will be possible to experience the experiences and events that will be held in Piazza Gae Aulenti and in the beach stadium set up right in front of the Filarete Tower of the Sforzesco Castle.

“I am very happy – says Roberta Guaineri, Councilor for Sport of the Municipality of Milan – that the rebirth of the Piazza Stuparich facility is taking place with a great volleyball event. The structure is returned to the city, to athletes and enthusiasts at the end of a complex process that today gives Milan a beautiful, functional and welcoming building. We already have many requests for use for events and demonstrations. Many are about sports, others are about entertainment and entertainment. For us it is essential to have given Milanese volleyball back the chance to have its home. With PowerVolley we are certain that AllianzCloud will be able to return to being one of the temples of national volleyball".

“I am really very happy and satisfied – comments Bruno Cattaneo, President of the Italian Volleyball Federation – and I am sure it will be a great success. We will bring beach volleyball to the city center, in one of the most beautiful and photographed places in Milan. And then the men's national team at the Palalido, a facility that we have waited for, awaited and strongly desired and which is now finally being returned to the city, to sport and to volleyball. It is a great satisfaction to see this modern and functional arena inaugurated by a volleyball event. Because this city has shown that it wants to get volleyball back at the highest level and now it finally has the facility that can be the home of volleyball. As always, I must say thanks to the institutions that have been close to us, to the sponsors who believe in the value of volleyball and its potential, to the regional and territorial committees and to those who have worked for the success of this great and wonderful event".

The first stage of the Italian Beach Volleyball Championship will open the ten days by engaging the best male and female pairs from 14 to 16 June in the arena built in front of the Sforzesco Castle where it will also be set up in a large village with stands and kiosks. From the 21st to the 23rd everyone will be at the new AllianzCloud to watch the men's national team matches. The Azzurri's opponents in the 4th stage of the Volleyball Nations League will be the vice world champions Serbia on Friday 21 June, Argentina on Saturday 22 and finally the world champions Poland on Sunday 23 June. A fantastic triptych that promises entertainment.

However, Milan Volley Week is also a widespread event that also aims to involve the public who are not familiar with volleyball to communicate its values and high level of spectacularity.

“The idea came to us last year – explains Adriano Pucci Mossotti, organizational director of the event – after the great success of the 2018 edition of the Italian Beach Volleyball Championship. Milan lends itself, like few other cities, to the organization of large events. Here there is interest, the public, many companies and companies interested in the volleyball product. But we wanted to provide continuity and above all involve citizens as much as possible, even those who were most distant and least interested in our sport. Thus the idea of a widespread event was born. Of a week that between two key moments could bring the values and protagonists of our sport to the streets."

The volleyball village will be set up in Piazza Gae Aulenti. Every day and for ten days music, presentations, guests and events will be able to attract fans and enthusiasts but also curious people and tourists. All together in the name of volleyball.

The Milan Volley Week is organized by the Italian Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the Milanese and Lombard institutions. A winning team that in the last 10 years has brought three World Cups and two European Championships to Milan and Lombardy.

“For years we have been working together with the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region on major events – explains Piero Cezza, President of the Lombardy Regional Committee of Fipav – collaborating in a very profitable way, each with their own roles and skills. The institutions give the directions and support the authorization and logistical aspects. The Federation takes care of every practical and organizational aspect thanks to the strength of the many volunteers who support and are protagonists of these events. And with the skills that derive from decades of experience we can claim to be the Federation that best manages to practically organize large events such as Milan Volley Week on its own. It is a source of pride and pride but it is also a wealth of skills that we want to support and increase."

Milan is Lombardy. A region where volleyball achieves extraordinary results and following thanks to the work of the clubs and managers and the passion of the many practitioners.

“We have always been close to volleyball and the Federation – is the thought of Martina Cambiaghi, Councilor for Sport of the Lombardy Region – with its organizational capacity it has been able to involve a large part of our region in major events, not only international ones. The support of the Lombardy Region has never failed and so has the partnership with Fipav. Our offices have always collaborated and also in this Milan Volley Week we have been close to the organizers because we are certain that it is precisely the large events that can act as a driving force to increase the number of practitioners and to give even more opportunities for visibility also in the field local to sport".
