Milan, May 14 2021 – The new Giuriati sports center was inaugurated this afternoon in the presence of the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala and the President of Coni Giovanni Malagò. The historic sports facility in the heart of Città Studi, built in 1929, has changed its face thanks to the restyling by the Polytechnic of Milan. The university, after receiving the center under concession from the Municipality of Milan in 2008, invested approximately 6,5 million euros to redevelop it and make it a cutting-edge sports facility, in the name of technological innovation and energy sustainability.

The Giuriati sports center stands on an area of 36 thousand m2 and inside it you can practice 12 sports disciplines: from padel to 5-a-side football, from calisthenics to basketball to athletics. Many of these sports were the protagonists of the training sessions carried out during the inauguration.

Among the new features there are also the brand new Giuriati fit center and the new multifunctional arena for basketball, volleyball and indoor 5-a-side football, as well as the redevelopment of the historic building that houses the stands and reception. The green areas have also been refurbished with 50 new trees.

"Sport is one of the driving forces of Milan and will be one of the levers of the restart – commented the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala –. For this reason, today the inauguration of the new Giuriati sports center arouses great satisfaction in me. The renewed Giuriati is a multifunctional and cutting-edge center from a technological and environmental point of view, where athletes, students and citizens who love physical activity will be able to practice numerous disciplines and cultivate the values of sharing, equality and inclusion at the basis of every sport. Thanks to the interventions of redevelopment implemented by the Polytechnic, today a facility of which Milan and the people of Milan can be proud is returned to the city".

"Investing in sport means a lot for the Polytechnic of Milan: sport is aggregation, comparison and growth – underlined the Rector Ferruccio Resta –. Not only for our students, many of whom practice competitive activities at the highest level, but for the entire city of Milan. The university is increasingly a place open to the social fabric and citizens. A modern university, in step with foreign realities also in its ability to offer services up to international competition from free time and well-being, necessary conditions to put the person back at the center of our attraction and development policies".

"I don't hide my emotion, it is the first official outing after the re-election at the helm of CONI – said Coni President Giovanni Malagò –. It is no coincidence that the elective assembly took place in Lombardy and Milan, because we are talking about administrations that they have always guaranteed us support, demonstrating total closeness to our world. I am particularly honored to participate in the inauguration of this Center, I congratulate Rector Resta for the efforts made in the creation of a complex that will become a point of reference and a reason for pride for the entire movement."

"I sincerely thank the Polytechnic – declared Roberta Guaineri, Councilor for Sport of the Municipality of Milan – for this redevelopment which has made the historic Giuriati sports center a cutting-edge facility, a true pride for Milan. Another fundamental step in the path outlined by this Administration to increasingly spread the practice of sports in our city and to create the so-called "Generation 2026" in view of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games: a sustainable city in which all young people regularly practice sports".

It was therefore natural to continue alongside the University also in the redevelopment of this splendid sports centre, as one of the main and most complete spaces in Milan in which to play sport. The inauguration of this facility coincides with the return of our historic "Impossible is nothing" campaign, which expresses with extreme clarity the ability to identify new possibilities with optimism to create a future. better for people, for the city of Milan and for the planet".
