Milan, 5 December 2020 – Thanks to a close and virtuous collaborative relationship with the national federations recognized by CONI, the Administration's commitment to promoting sport in the city continues through the valorisation of municipally owned facilities.

The Council approved the guidelines for the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Italian Gymnastics Federation to develop and enhance the “S. Guglielmetti" in via Ovada 40 up to the qualification of "Highly Specialized Federal Center", thanks to the renovation of part of the internal spaces and its redevelopment in terms of energy efficiency, all paid for by the Federation.

“With this agreement we strengthen Milan's primary role as a fundamental hub for regional and national gymnastics – declares Roberta Guaineri, councilor for Sport –. The renovated center will guarantee the training and competitions of the athletes of our teams in preparation for the most important national and international competitions, also giving the opportunity to the many gymnasts who trained here and achieved prestigious goals, to continue their activity at the highest levels . Furthermore, the expansion of the guesthouse will also facilitate the organization of stages and gatherings which may thus become more frequent, with repercussions on the promotion of Milan in the world and on the flow of athletes and enthusiasts linked to sports tourism".

The sports complex in via Ovada 40 was built by the Italian Gymnastics Federation under a thirty-year agreement on surface rights, with the aim of creating a gym specifically dedicated to Artistic Gymnastics.

The collaboration agreement will last 19 years, does not provide for any charges to be borne by the Municipality, while the Federation will invest 552 thousand euros in works and 462 thousand euros in new sports equipment, in addition to the payment of utilities.
