Milan, October 23 2020 – A new life for the Lido of Piazzale Lotto, a symbolic place for sport in Milan and among the most popular in the city during the summer season, maintaining its sporting and recreational vocation. This is the objective of the Council which declared the project proposal for the concession for the construction of a new sports center in the area as feasible and in line with the public interest, as well as the subsequent management for a period of 42 years presented by of the Iberian company Ingesport health and SPA consulting SA, leader of Go fit centers.

“This public-private partnership project – declares Roberta Guaineri, Councilor for Sport – involves the redevelopment of all existing structures and public spaces, which will be available to citizens, as well as the construction of a new building which will house a play centre- very equipped sportsman. A precious opportunity that will make the Lido usable all year round and not limited to the three summer months and which helps to expand its offer, not only for sports, for all Milanese, with free offer of some spaces, discounted season tickets for sporting activity for families, with free admission for minors. Now let's proceed quickly to return this totally renewed monument to well-being to the Milanese as soon as possible."

Currently the entire complex, entrusted to Milanosport, consists of an outdoor swimming pool; 4 synthetic and illuminated tennis courts, 3 of which are covered in winter; 2 five-a-side football pitches; 5 mini golf course (open from March to November); a changing room building (the rotation cabin pavilion); pool support services (the pavilion individual cabins, pool and pavilion bar); the Rotonda, which is located at the end of the park, houses a large and bright gym for practicing exercises and a playroom.

The proposed project aims to redevelop the complex through the construction of a new structure to be used as a sports centre, the transformation of the current swimming pool (which involves a considerable waste of resources as it is not equipped with an adequate filtering system) into a mirror of water, the construction of a new seasonal swimming pool, the extraordinary maintenance with consequent income generation of the buildings present within the area as well as the complete renovation, through demolition and reconstruction in shape, of the Individual Cabins pavilion. As regards rates, discounted types of passes will be provided for families, young people and seniors.

The annual concession fee has been quantified at 80 thousand euros, while the overall economic value of the works is equal to over 25 million euros. The duration of the works, foreseen in two distinct phases, is 24 months for the construction of the new sports center, the transformation of the current swimming pool, the construction of the new one and the maintenance of the existing buildings, and a further 7 months for the demolition and the reconstruction of the Individual Cabins pavilion, without any contribution from the Municipality of Milan.
