Tajani: "A new step forward towards the creation of the most important Italian agri-food hub"

Milan, May 31 2021 – The new regulation for the management of the city's wholesale fruit and vegetable market was approved by the City Council. The approval of the new regulation, the previous one dated 1981, was necessary to adapt the management of the market, its spaces and the activities of the numerous wholesale operators to the various regulatory changes that have governed the sector over the years of wholesale trade.

"The approval of this new regulation – explains the councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce, Cristina Tajani – represents a further step forward towards the creation of the city's new general markets, a project that can no longer be postponed aimed at creation of a truly modern agri-food hub serving the city, the region and the country capable of playing a fundamental role in the export of fresh Italian products especially to markets such as Switzerland, Germany, England and Eastern Europe".

The new regulation not only has the aim of adapting to the current regulatory framework but above all allows Sogemi to comply with the emerging needs of market functioning, making the control and supervision of the activities carried out within the structure more effective. Furthermore, it is foreseen the possibility that the duration of the concessions in the first assignment of the sales points of the new fruit and vegetable pavilion, which will see the light in the next few years, could be continued for up to 9 or 12 years.

Extensions due to the need for operators to amortize the investments they will make for the costs of setting up the premises, sharing with private resources the costs of building the new fruit and vegetable pavilions, in line with the technical project and the financial economic plan approved by the City Council in 2017 for the creation of the new general markets.
