The objective is to renew the existing network and 52 new stations
 
Milan, 12 December 2021 — The Council has approved a project for the strengthening and modernization of video surveillance cameras, an active control system in the neighborhoods connected with the Police Force and the Prefecture which over the years has allowed the construction of a network which today has 1.945 points, useful for the joint management of safety in the city with the aim of preventing and combating degradation.

With the approved project (worth 3 million euros) it will be possible to strengthen the network with 52 new cameras (for a total of almost 2 thousand devices) in locations selected in recent months by the Security Sector, the local police and the security forces. the order based on requests received from municipalities, citizens, committees, municipal sectors as well as from the police forces. 

In addition to the 52 new systems, for which 70% of ministerial funding will be used for economic coverage of approximately 700.000 euros, it will also be possible to replace old analog cameras with new, more functional ones, as well as plan for new subsequent implementations.

"Video surveillance - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Security - constitutes a very useful system for controlling the city in all neighborhoods. It is our objective to provide other resources in the 2022 budget to further strengthen the system. For the new locations I will ask each municipality the indication with specific priorities and purposes, all elements that I will then verify with the Security Sector, local police and law enforcement".

In addition to the urban security cameras, the operations centers of the police forces, to which this network is connected, can also access the images of the mobility cameras, of the systems placed on the ATM shelters, on public buildings, for a widespread and efficient network remote control of the city.
