Safety. Civil Protection of Milan on a mission in the municipalities of Lecco affected by bad weather

Milan, June 15 2019 – The Civil Protection of Milan has been on a mission since last Wednesday in the municipalities of the upper Lake Como affected by the bad weather which, in the night between 11 and 12 June, caused large-scale flooding and landslides in the Lecco area.

As soon as they arrived on site, the director of the Civil Protection of Milan Cristiano Cozzi, together with the representatives of the Metropolitan City, carried out two inspections in the municipalities of Dervio and Primaluna accompanied by the respective mayors, to verify the situation and define the operational support needs, in agreement with the Lombardy Region.

In Dervio, although the 800 people initially evacuated have returned, the conditions of the roads and homes are still critical. The Milanese Civil Protection, present with two teams, brought two mini excavators and a heavy vehicle to clear the streets and basements of mud and debris, in particular wooden trunks that impede access to cars.

In the municipality of Primaluna, in Valsassina, a team with a high-capacity photoelectric trolley was sent to illuminate the areas in which the rescue teams are operating.

The works in the two Municipalities will continue in the next few days until the emergency has ceased.
“The Municipality of Milan – said the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo – immediately responded to the requests for assistance that reached us through the coordination of the Lombardy Region, making its Civil Protection personnel available for the municipalities affected by the bad weather. Intervening promptly and effectively allows citizens to quickly return to their homes and resume daily life abruptly interrupted by these extreme events."
