Milan, July 10 2019 – The animal protection unit of the local police, in agreement with the veterinarians of the ATS Metropolitan City of Milan, has seized a female Cane Corso and her puppies, found in an apartment without food or water, for mistreatment.

The intervention, which took place last July 7, was born from a report from a neighbor who heard the dog barking during the night. When the patrol arrived on site, a man also showed up with the keys to the apartment. He told the officers that only the evening before he had received the keys to access the apartment from an acquaintance of his, with the task of feeding and checking on the dog.

When the local police officers, together with the ATS veterinarians, entered the house in the Crescenzago area, they found the apartment in terrible hygienic conditions, with the dog that had given birth to thirteen puppies a few days earlier, left without food or water. Unfortunately, two puppies, from an extremely large litter, had already died and three others, very weak, died during the night in the health kennel that hosted them.

From the first reconstructions, it seems that the dog's owners, a Sri Lankan couple, were forced to suddenly leave for their home town for family reasons and left the keys to the apartment to an acquaintance, their fellow countryman, so that he could take care of dog care. What actually happened after their departure, which took place a week before the animals were found, is not yet clear and the local police officers are still investigating the responsibilities and for now they have filed a complaint for mistreatment against unknown persons, waiting to identify the person who was entrusted with the care of the animal.

The animals were seized and taken for initial treatment to the ATS health kennel, which also provided them with microchips, and then they were transferred to the kennel shelter park of the Municipality of Milan.

At the time of weaning, in a few months, the authorization for the adoption of the eight puppies will be requested from the magistrate in charge of the file.
