Safety. From 3 August glass bottles, cans and selfie sticks will be prohibited in Darsena

Milan, August 3 2019 – The ordinance which prohibits the introduction of glass bottles or containers, cans, plastic bottles with caps, selfie sticks and fireworks into the Darsena is in force from today. The exercise of itinerant trade is also prohibited, including so-called street food.
The Darsena is a very popular meeting place in the Milanese summer, where there is a large influx of people every day. This requires additional attention to ensure everyone's safety. The abandonment of bottles, especially broken ones, constitutes a danger to the safety of those who want to enjoy the beauty of this area. The Administration has therefore decided to renew the bans already foreseen by the ordinances in recent years.
In detail, the ordinance specifies that from 00.01 on 3 August to midnight on Sunday 1 September in the Darsena area, between Piazza XXIV Maggio, Viale Gorizia, Via Codara, Piazzale Cantore and Viale Gabriele D'Annunzio, it is forbidden to "introduce, deposit on the ground, detain, transport, give away or receive for any reason glass bottles and containers, cans of any type, plastic bottles closed with caps and selfie sticks". The same prohibition also applies to fireworks, firecrackers, barrels or rockets.
Public establishments are allowed to sell drinks, after tapping or pouring, in paper and plastic containers. The consumption of glass drinks is only permitted within public establishments for table orders.
The ordinance also prohibits the exercise of itinerant commerce in public areas, including so-called street food.
“We have decided to replicate the ordinance again this year – explains the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo with responsibility for Security –, to ensure citizens and tourists the possibility of peacefully enjoying the summer evenings of our splendid Darsena, limiting the problems that the presence of glass bottles, shards and cans can result."
