Milan, October 11 2019 – Green light for the new Civil Protection alert system of the Municipality of Milan to warn citizens who live in the areas at risk of flooding of the Seveso and Lambro rivers in the event of hydraulic risk or strong storms.
Citizens who wish to receive the information promptly, through an SMS, an email message or a pre-recorded call, can register by filling out a form on the website of the Municipality of Milan.

The Municipality has been implementing an activation system in the event of a weather alert for some time and the Milan Civil Protection is on the ground daily to prevent and deal with any emergencies related to hydrogeological and hydraulic phenomena. Timely information to citizens of hydraulic risk areas is important to allow everyone to prepare for the event and take the correct precautions.

To this end, the Administration, through the Urban Security, Integrated Security and Civil Protection Area, Information Systems and Digital Agenda Directorates and with the collaboration of the Communication Area, has developed a project which has led to the creation of a new warning system.

This is a free and fast online service with which citizens can be quickly notified about the alerts issued by the Lombardy Region (yellow, orange or red code for hydraulic risk or strong storms), about the reaching of the attention thresholds and flooding of the Seveso torrent and the Lambro river, on the return to normality of the situation and on the behavior to be adopted in these cases.

The objective is to simultaneously and promptly notify all those who may be interested, a few hours in advance in the event of a weather alert and when the critical event is approaching, i.e. when the criticality thresholds of the Seveso and Lambro are exceeded . These communication methods will now be added to the information distributed through the press, social media and through the Civil Protection teams.

This alert system involves online registration in which the user can report one or more addresses of interest (from home, to work, to their children's school) to be notified in the event of problems in an area they frequent. habitually.

By entering your email address or telephone number in your registration you have the possibility of activating three different communication channels: email, recorded telephone calls and SMS.
The different communication channels are activated based on the type and level of criticality and based on the addresses of interest registered by the user.

The Milan Civil Protection alert system is a free information service. The first activation period of the service, until March 2020, is experimental and can be found online on site of the municipality or from web pages of the Civil Protection of Milan.

The service will be presented to citizens on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October in via Federico Confalonieri at the Casa della memoria on the occasion of the national campaign for good civil protection practices "I don't take risks". Civil Protection volunteers will set up information points in the main Italian squares to spread the culture of prevention and raise awareness among citizens. The councilor for Mobility and Public Works Marco Granelli will also be present on Saturday at 16pm to illustrate the plan to combat the flooding of the Seveso and Lambro rivers. Councilor Granelli will make a second presentation to citizens on Sunday 13th at 12pm at the Niguarda Neighborhood Festival in Piazza Belloveso where tactical urbanism works for pedestrianization as part of the Neighborhood Plan are underway.
