Sharing cities. From vehicle charging to smart parking, ten new areas for electric mobility

The micro-hubs aggregate various services, including normal and fast charge columns and car sharing

Milan, 15 July 2021 – A new piece is operational for the sustainable mobility offer in Milan: ten mobility areas installed by NHP ESCo, with the support of the Municipality of Milan and Amat (Mobility, Environment and Territory Agency) within the of the Sharing Cities – Horizon 2020 Project. A new way of moving around the city, a new urban concept that aggregates electric and shared mobility services in a single physical space, accessible and sustainable, capable of simplifying travel in the Lombardy capital.

The Mobility Areas are intermodal exchange micro-hubs that concentrate in a single site a range of integrated mobility services managed by an innovative digital platform: charging stations for normal and fast charge electric vehicles, smart parking, car sharing with parking spaces dedicated to fleets.

“Electric mobility is increasingly a reality - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility - 500 charging points are operational in Milan. In addition to the placement by the various operators, the creation of another 40 mobility areas financed by the Municipality of Milan and the European Pon Metro funds is planned for the autumn. The objective is to progressively and homogeneously cover the entire city in a manner consistent with the development of this type of vehicle."

“Today we are starting a small revolution in the complex world of urban mobility and at the same time we are expanding the actions implemented by the Administration to improve the quality of life in the Porta Romana Vettabbia neighbourhood, thanks to the European Sharing Cities project launched in 2016 – adds the 'Counslor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities, Cristina Tajani -. Thanks to projects like this which bring together public and private entities, we demonstrate how the intelligent use of new technologies supported by grassroots co-planning, with direct listening and participation of residents, is the best choice for the development of Milan. A city in which the inhabitants choose and identify the services and projects most useful for the transformation and evolution of the neighborhood.”

“We aim to combine charging and parking points with a vast range of innovative mobility services and more - says Valerio Siniscalco, CEO of NHP - We are concentrating our efforts on powering the Mobility Areas with energy from renewable sources and related energy storage, imagining a tomorrow also made up of neighborhood energy integration, from the perspective of the Sharing Cities philosophy".

These ten areas are located in the south-eastern quadrant of Milan, in addition to this one in Corso Lodi 5, they have been installed in Corso Lodi 34, Viale Col di Lana 2, Via Bocconi 28, Via Cassinis 79, Piazzale Cantore 2, Via Sile 31 , piazza Caduti del Lavoro 5, via Laura Ciceri Visconti 2, via Pietrasanta, 8.
