Cocco: “A choice due to the new burial needs and in line with the changes envisaged by the new cemetery master plan. We will remain well below the maximum tariff foreseen by the Government”

Milan 22 December 2019 – A single fee for the scattering of ashes in cemeteries starting from 2020. The Administration has in fact established the payment of 103 euros for citizens who decide to scatter the ashes of their loved ones in the equipped areas within the Milanese cemeteries.

Currently, the dispersion of ashes is only possible in the "Garden of Remembrance" in the Lambrate cemetery, but the new cemetery master plan, approved by the City Council last December 9, provides for the creation of other equipped areas in the cemeteries of Bruzzano and Greco and the “Roots” and “Forest of Memory” projects for dispersion through burial in biodegradable containers and subsequent planting of plants in the Maggiore and Baggio cemetery.

“The recently approved master plan for Milanese cemeteries responds to the new burial needs, which see a significant increase in cremations – comments the councilor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services Roberta Cocco -. It is therefore possible that the request for dispersion of ashes will consequently increase in the coming years, also following the recent changes to Regional Law 33/2009 which now allow the desire to proceed with dispersion to be expressed even orally, thus facilitating bureaucratic procedures. for family members, who until a few months ago had to demonstrate the will of the deceased through appropriate written documentation. For this reason we decided to determine a tariff, a possibility already foreseen since 2015 but never applied, still remaining well below the maximum tariff established by the Government, equal to approximately 207 euros".

For the dispersion of ashes outside cemeteries (in nature or in private areas with the consent of the owners but in any case far from inhabited centers) a fee of 28,12 euros is already in force for the processing of administrative procedures.
The new tariff for dispersion within city cemeteries, however, will come into force starting from 2020.
In 2017, there were 10.257 cremations: 340 total dispersions, of which 242 in the Garden of Remembrance. In 2018, there were 10.463 cremations: 328 total dispersions, of which 242 in the Lambrate Garden of Remembrance. In 2019, compared to 9400 cremations, the dispersion of the ashes occurred in 300 cases, 210 of which within the Garden of Remembrance.
