Civic schools. The activities of the Claudio Abbado Civic Music School are starting
It starts again after the summer break with a new direction and many plans for the future. Registrations open until September 25th
Milan, September 14 2020 – The doors of the historic headquarters of Villa Simonetta and the headquarters of via Decorati al valor civil are opened: a special resumption after the summer break for the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music which coincides with the first days of work of the new Director, Professor Roberto Favaro, appointed at the beginning of August.
The school, founded in 1862, trains professional musicians and is divided into five institutes: Ancient Music, Classical Music, Musical Research (IRMus), Civic Choirs, Civic Jazz Courses. Added to the institutes is the Music Education Center (CEM), dedicated to amateur courses.
Registration for the entrance exams is still open until September 25th, while a restart of teaching activities full of innovations is being prepared, finding a way to combine health safety with new ideas and school development actions in every area.
The figure that will most characterize the new year will be that of performance. After the block due to confinement there is certainly a great desire to return to performing, but above all the return of the students to the scene will find a new impetus in the close collaboration with the other Fondazione Milano schools and with the other cultural institutions, as well as in the contamination of spaces and languages.
The heart of the training offer are the AFAM level I and II academic diploma courses, equivalent to three-year and master's degree courses, in the field of ancient, classical, jazz and contemporary music. For this level of training, the innovations will concern both the enrichment of the offer with openings towards other areas than those traditionally studied at Abbado, such as popular music and sound art, and the launch of research.
Great attention will be paid to the international dimension, which will also be developed through new collaborations and masterclasses. The school has always had a large presence of foreign students, coming from Europe and more than 30 countries around the world. The international presence is particularly significant for the ancient music courses and for the opera singing and singing instructor courses of the Institute of Classical Music. Students enrolled in curricular courses are joined by those who choose to attend school as part of the Erasmus+ project.
The rich educational offer of the music school also includes preparatory courses, for the little ones, and basic and pre-academic courses.
Finally, the school offers courses for amateurs, at the CEM headquarters, in the Forlanini area, instrument, singing and ensemble music lessons that range across different musical genres.
For students of all ages and all courses, specific safety protocols have been prepared for musical activities which include the use of personal protective equipment and diversified shifts in which students can take turns following separate routes. Separators have been installed in Plexiglass® to protect wind instruments and singers and special detergents have been made available for piano keyboards which must be used before and after using the instrument. The large number of individual lessons and the presence of a large park, which can be used for some activities in good weather, will ensure that crowding situations do not occur.
For the first phase of the year, as per the indications of the Ministry of University and Research, a mixed teaching method is planned which will use distance learning for different disciplinary areas, especially in the technological field and for complementary and theoretical subjects.
The entrance exams will take place mainly online, by sending videos of your musical performance and through video interviews. The admissions of those who do not possess instrumental skills (aptitude tests) and those for the orchestra conducting and choir courses will be carried out in person.
