Open Schools 2.0. The website and the interactive map are born to discover the projects

Milan, October 15 2019 – The site dedicated to Open Schools 2.0 is born, a large container of news, events, documentation, service information and a noticeboard for those looking for or offering initiatives dedicated to the world of school: www.scuoleapertemilano.it.

On the new portal – presented today to school managers by the councilor for education Laura Galimberti and by the manager of the territorial school office of Milan Marco Bussetti – the new interactive map is also available, to find out which projects are active in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan within each school, with a direct reference to the institutional site of the comprehensive school, so that all the other initiatives carried out with other bodies and associations can also be known.

Open Schools 2.0 was born in collaboration with the Territorial School Office to promote and support all those projects and actions useful for the implementation of the right to study and educational success and the fight against school dropout and segregation. The main objective is to encourage the opening of schools after school hours so that they become meeting places that can be used by the whole district.

“The school is the first social infrastructure in the area – comments councilor Galimberti – and it is for this reason that it is essential that it increasingly becomes a place of inclusion and integration, which is open to the city to give opportunities for meeting and socialising. This project therefore aims to facilitate the experimentation and dissemination of 'Open School' models and projects”.

“The metropolis can be dispersive, but every school can and must become an aggregation center for the neighborhood as well – declares the Head of the Milan Territorial School Office Bussetti –, a structure at the service of citizens, therefore also of families. It already is, but with the agreement we renewed in February 2019, we proceed and strengthen the intention: to be a social and cultural reference point".

To be defined as an 'Open School', the institution must have certain characteristics: the presence of an official parents' association, in agreement with the school; the promotion and implementation of extra-curricular activities on closing days or after-school hours; the inclusion of projects and extra-curricular activities in the three-year plan of the educational offer; the activation or participation in 'Open Schools 2.0' projects, in collaboration with the institutions or financed through tenders; collaboration with local entities (libraries, museums, sports facilities, associations...), to enrich the educational offer also through pupils' outings in the city; collaboration with local realities, to open school spaces to citizens, also involving the world of volunteering (grandparents, former students, associations, companies…); collaboration with the 'Scuole Aperte 2.0' network, also through contributions and reports on the site and through the newsletter.

All the handbooks useful for actively participating in school life are also available on the portal: starting a parents' association, doing occasional volunteering, setting up a school garden and 'adopt' a red bench against violence against women.
