Chess. The second edition of the "City of Milan Trophy" in memory of Franco Rindone is underway

Milan, May 31 2019 – The second edition of the "City of Milan Trophy" kicks off this evening, the chess festival in memory of Franco Rindone, who passed away due to a bicycle accident that occurred in the city center in July 2017, organized by the Il Castelletto chess clubs , Chess Academy, Chess Projects, S.D. Milanese Chess with the Municipality of Milan and MM.

After the first edition in 2018 at the Sforzesco Castle, the chess festival returns for the second year with many new features, starting from the location, the Milan Water Plant, and from the days that become three. In fact, it begins tonight, at 18 pm in the presence of Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo, with the first rounds of Tournament A. Tomorrow, Saturday 30st June, the rounds of Tournaments A and B will continue. While on Sunday 1nd June there will be a large open party to everyone - the Mobility Councilor Marco Granelli will be present at 2 -, in addition to the last rounds of the two tournaments and the final awards ceremony.

“Last year the first Blitz Tournament of the City of Milan was born by the will of Franco's family, who we had supported with conviction, in the hope that it would become the first official tournament of our city – declare the deputy mayor Scavuzzo and the councilor Granelli – . For this reason we had called together all the associations, who responded with great enthusiasm. For this reason we want to strongly thank all those who made themselves available to create this second edition, which we are certain will be even more of a success than the first. We therefore invite everyone, curious and passionate, to be there on Sunday."

“This year's edition also brings with it another beautiful novelty – continues Education Councilor Laura Galimberti –: today's morning was in fact dedicated to the children of the nursery school. The high educational value of chess can give excellent stimuli even to the little ones." The 'Chess in Motion' initiative involved some classes of children from municipal nursery schools who played the pieces and thus learned all the moves by moving on a large chessboard.

The party on Sunday will continue until 17pm with various initiatives:

  • Simultaneous chess: Scacco Andrea and Scacco Max will play against everyone;
  • Chess quiz: a fun competition on chess topics;
  • Let's learn to play: teaching moment for children with the help of large magnetic chessboards;
  • Assisted free play chess boards;
  • Chess and Literature: literary passages taken from classic, modern, crime, noir and science fiction texts will be presented, in which chess is somehow present in the story or protagonists of the story;
  • Chess in history: exhibition on the history of chess;
  • Treasure Hunt: great team game in stages with chess and cycling content;
  • Chess comics: space dedicated to the interaction between chess and comics.
