Urban regeneration. Via Macconago, green light for the recovery of the farmhouse and the former church

Milan, May 14 2022 - Redevelopment of the historic rural village of Macconago on the southern borders of Milan, within the Southern Agricultural Park, including the restoration of the ancient church of San Carlo, and regeneration interventions which will benefit the entire neighborhood. It is the project envisaged by the Integrated Intervention Program of via Macconago 24/36, just approved by the Council.

The existing properties, now degraded, will be recovered and new ones will be built for a maximum building surface area of 12.789 m12.113, of which 676 dedicated to residential functions (free construction and rental agreements) and the remaining portion, of XNUMX mXNUMX, to neighborhood businesses.

The Plan, headed by the Leonardo Del Vecchio Foundation, is completed with a series of urbanization works, worth approximately 2,3 million euros, aimed at redesigning the surrounding public space including, in particular, the arrangement and expansion of the current roadway in via Macconago, complete with sidewalks and in-line parking spaces, a necessary intervention to resolve the phenomenon of irregular parking which, given the proximity to the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), affects the entire area. A public car park has also been provided near the Macconago Castle and the Lago Verde sport fishing lake, of limited dimensions (15 parking spaces) to avoid - as highlighted by Municipality 5 - the occurrence of improper uses.

Added to the initial plan is the recovery and refunctionalization project of the former church of San Carlo in Macconago, located in front of the residential settlement and now in a state of abandonment, intended to host functions of public interest. The intervention involves the execution of conservative restoration and rehabilitation works by the proponent, mainly aimed at the static restoration and recovery of the healthiness of the building, through interventions on the masonry and wooden parts.

Furthermore, to make it usable as a multifunctional space - as requested by the relevant Municipality - the project involves the total renovation of the systems (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic) and interiors (flooring and plaster), as well as the creation of a hygienic room exclusive use of users.

As already established when adopting the PII, the building works for the restoration will be deducted from the urbanization costs and the function to which the work will be allocated will be indicated by the municipal administration and/or by Municipality 5, to which the property will be delivered at the end of the renovation. The works will also affect the area surrounding the former church, through the creation of a small square and public green spaces.

Finally, the project includes the creation of a tree-lined square, in which elements of street furniture will be inserted, as well as an equipped green area complete with inclusive play space for children with disabilities (as requested by Municipality 5), with connection pedestrian with the area pertaining to the former church.

The next step will be the signing of the implementing urban planning agreement, and then moving on to the process of starting the works, which could start towards the end of next year.
