Urban regeneration. Closer to the "Bosco della musica" in Rogoredo Santa Giulia, the new Campus of the Conservatory

Tancredi: “Polycentric Milan is growing, as we continue to restore value and urban quality to all neighborhoods”

Milan, 3 April 2022 - A further piece to make up the development framework of the Santa Giulia district. It concerns the Campus of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory called 'Bosco della musica', which will have its new headquarters there, completing the southern section of the intervention on the entire area.

The guidelines for the signing of an essential document for the continuation of the procedure were approved by the Council: the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, the Ministry of University and Research, the Lombardy Region, the Conservatory and the Municipality of Milan . A formal document useful for the creation of the new multifunctional structure dedicated to music equipped with classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, accommodation, refreshment areas and everything needed to make the spaces functional for student activities and, at the same time, to complete urban redevelopment of the entire area as intended by the Administration.

“Polycentric Milan grows from the excellence of its history - intervenes the councilor for urban regeneration Giancarlo Tancredi -. As in other districts of the city, for example Rubattino and Porta Vittoria, it is the objective of this Administration to overcome the boundaries between center and suburbs, restore value and urban quality to contexts such as that of Rogoredo, regenerate places with the vitality of young people, as in case of the new headquarters of the Conservatory, which attracts students from all over Italy and abroad, who will find here a modern campus and rooms equipped with all services at affordable prices".

The area, now owned by the municipality, has a surface area of over 13 thousand m90, and will be granted free surface rights to the Conservatory for 1.400 years. The project is very complex: it envisages an open Campus, the first in Italy, i.e. a park with a complex of public functions, starting from the renovation of the former Chemists building (which has a surface area of approximately XNUMX mXNUMX) intended for the carrying out of the the teaching activity of popular music courses (jazz, pop, rock), and the recovery of the part of the area currently used as a car park as a public green area.

In addition to these interventions, an integrated complex will be created with classrooms and digital laboratories for electronic music and sound design; a technological auditorium with 400 seats and 2 rehearsal rooms, which for certain events can also be made available to the Administration and Municipality 4, the reference one; an outdoor arena (in the area behind the building) for summer shows; a mixed residence of approximately 220 places to welcome students, teachers and visitors. An equipped coworking space will be designed for young people leaving the Civic School of Violin Making, in order to provide them with further training in the entrepreneurial, fiscal and sustainable materials fields for the best start-up of the business, and finally new courses and workshops , also in collaboration with universities and cultural and scientific institutions in Milan.

The agreement also provides for the programming of free musical shows for citizens.

The overall cost of the intervention, calculated at 47 million euros, will be covered by the two ministries involved (20 million by Mims, 15 million by the Ministry of the University) and by the Region (12 million).

Meanwhile, in Santa Giulia, land reclamation continues in preparation for the construction of the new Arena for sport and entertainment which, with a capacity of up to 16 thousand spectators, will host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and in particular the men's ice hockey competitions. In addition to the PalaItalia and the Conservatory Campus, the new neighborhood will include a large public park of around 360 thousand mXNUMX, one of the largest in the city, a predominantly residential part, which is arranged around tree-lined avenues and where new schools will be built, the Museum of children, offices and commercial spaces - including food - and local services, distributed around a network of cycle and pedestrian paths and pedestrian squares.
