Milan, 7 April 2022 - The project that will give a new life to Cascina Carpana bears the programmatic title of 'Re-Birth'. We are in the Porto di Mare area in Municipality 4, in via San Dionigi 121, in the south-eastern quadrant of the city which is already experiencing many transformations, the result of the city's regeneration policies.

Now a new piece is added: the SVS DAD (Donna Help Donna) Onlus association has been awarded as leader - still provisionally, the definitive award is expected soon - the concession of surface rights for a duration of 90 years of the 800th century farmhouse complex, put up for tender by the Administration, which owns it, last September, with a project whose priority objective is to guarantee a safe place for women victims of violence with minor children, for the period necessary to build the foundations for their economic and housing autonomy, in collaboration with the inter-institutional territorial anti-violence network (RTIA) coordinated by the Municipality of Milan.

The complex is made up of several buildings, one of which is already in the custody of Italia Nostra as a warehouse as part of the redevelopment activities of the green areas of Porto di Mare, reborn in recent years thanks to the Municipality's choice to entrust its management to Association. And now the other seven buildings will also be able to come back to life, covering a very large surface area of almost 1.800 square meters estimated in addition to over 460 square meters of porticoes and another 19 thousand square meters of external areas, in which the new project will be concentrated.

'Ri-Nascita' intends to provide hospitality to women victims of violence in a safe place in which to lay the foundations for finding or rediscovering full autonomy, approaching the issues of training, work, professionalism and economic independence. Training and work will also be offered to other women in difficult conditions, even if not resident in Cascina, through the planned catering activities and a commercial business open to all citizens. In synergy with the voluntary association Casa delle donne batterete (Cadmi) and with the amateur sports association CampaCavallo, SVD DAD Onlus will also promote knowledge and use of the Cascina: initiatives will be organized that bring the inhabitants of the neighborhood, and not only, to experience moments of social cohesion in the open air, regular sports attendance will be offered to young people, specific Pet Therapy (IAA) workshops will be activated aimed at disabled girls and boys, and courses dedicated to schools will be created to prevent phenomena of marginalization and discomfort social, also supporting teachers in their role.

“In the Porto di Mare/Rogoredo area - intervenes the councilor for urban regeneration Giancarlo Tancredi - territory that until a few years ago was better known as a 'drug thicket', eradicated by the incisive action of the Municipality, Italia Nostra and other institutions , a project of extraordinary social value is born, a safe place dedicated to women victims of violence, in Cascina Carpana which will be completely redeveloped. A unique example of urban and social regeneration, which will contribute to the great renewal process of this urban quadrant."

“The project presented - explains Alessandra Kustermann, president of SVS DAD - was born from the desire to create a safe place where women and their children, having emerged from an experience of domestic violence, can recover psychological serenity, acquire new professional skills and find economic independence that allows them to face the world independently. It will be a residential or daytime place where they will be able to test their working capacity in a protected way for a year, after specific training, to then face the search for external work and a home to live in with their children. At the same time, thanks to the activity of the CampaCavallo sports association, the Cascina will be an open place for the inhabitants of the Corvetto district and Milan, where it will be possible to do horse riding, pet therapy, circus lessons and play volleyball and basketball in the Lombard court" .

“We have chosen to participate in this project - adds Manuela Ulivi, president of Cadmi - to experiment with an alternative to mother-child communities, making available our thirty-year expertise in the reception and hospitality of women emerging from violence. The farmhouse will be renovated into single apartments where women and their children can find a safe place, where they can feel at ease, to be able to start again".

More in detail, the construction of around ten apartments is planned, each with a surface area between 30 and 40 mXNUMX, for the reception of abused women and their children, an educational kitchen also to support the catering activity, of a space for catering and socialising, a cafeteria, a food shop, a dog nursery, an equestrian center where wellness courses can be organized for adults and children, craft workshops housed in the current barn, as well as an area exhibition and training rooms.

The external areas will include five-a-side football pitches and mini-basketball fields, the restaurant's outdoor area, a playground for boys and girls, a shared vegetable garden, a riding stable and also a square available for a possible market.

To achieve the objectives, some conservative restoration and redevelopment works are necessary, especially internally, to adapt the systems to the regulations and to redesign the available spaces, to be agreed with the relevant bodies (Superintendence and South Milan Agricultural Park), for which it is in fact, a total investment of 3,678 million is expected, to which 250 thousand euros are added for provisions relating to safety measures, to be paid by the successful tenderer.

The external spaces will be able to be used within a year (and even before that, animation and awareness-raising initiatives for the project will be possible), while for those inside, works of longer duration are expected, lasting around a year and a half. .
