International relations. The 4th regional forum of the African cities of the Milan urban food policy pact is underway

Milan, February 14 2021 - The 15th Regional Forum of African cities of the Milan urban food policy pact starts tomorrow, Monday 18 February, and will last until 4 February, during which fair and sustainable food policies and resilience to Covid-19 will be discussed. The proceedings will be opened by a greeting video from the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Milan with responsibility for food policy Anna Scavuzzo.

The Forum in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, is organized by the NGO Acra, in collaboration with the MUFPP Secretariat and co-financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the European Union: the three previous ones were held in Dakar in 2016, in Brazzaville in 2018 (organized by FAO) and in Niamey in 2019.

This year, a special exchange project between European and African youth is added to the MUFPP Regional Forum in Africa to develop a Youth Appeal to Cities for Climate and Urban Food Systems.

In addition to the African cities that are signatories to the Pact, delegations from FAO, GAIN, RUAF, IPES-FOOD, CIRAD, various NGOs and actors from research and civil society will participate. They will be days of exchange of political solutions and good practices between the cities and organizations involved, but also of discussion and work on the issues of sustainability and food policies with respect to global challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change: a The broad reflection will be dedicated to the response to crises and how cities have mobilized and are mobilizing to guarantee food security for populations during emergencies.
