Reinventing cities. Here are the finalist projects of the second edition for the Milanese sites
Maran: “Teams selected to meet the great challenge for the development of Milan in the coming years”. The international call for urban and environmental regeneration promoted together with C40 is moving towards its final phase
Milan, July 27 2020 – The selection of the teams for the second edition of Reinventing Cities was also successfully completed, the international tender announced by the Municipality together with C40 which provides for the sale and establishment of surface rights of sites to be allocated to environmental and urban regeneration projects . A total of 27, out of 61 proposals received, are the finalist projects which aim to "reinvent" Piazzale Loreto, the Lambrate airport, the Bovisa hub, via Civitavecchia, the former slaughterhouse and the Liberty buildings, the areas chosen for the second edition of the call in which Milan participates together with Madrid, Rome, Chicago, Dubai, Montreal, Singapore, Cape Town and Reykjavik.
For each area, the most deserving projects were selected by special commissions made up of representatives of the Municipality of Milan and C40, international experts in urban planning and architecture, local environmental experts and economic experts, by representatives of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group regarding the site of Lambrate and Ferrovie Nord for the Bovisa junction. Black smoke only for the area of via Monti Sabini, for which only one proposal had been presented, not considered suitable for the final phase.
"The quality of the judging commissions and the selected teams is up to the great challenge they are called upon to undertake: identifying projects capable of regenerating key places in the city, mending urban voids with quality projects - declares the councilor for Urban Planning Pierfrancesco Maran - From Loreto to Lambrate, a large part of Milan's urban development in the coming years will pass through the redesign of these sites, which will necessarily be under the banner of sustainability and social equity states selected concern precisely the ability to identify resilient and environmentally friendly solutions".
The finalist teams will now have to develop the detailed proposal including the economic offer. Winners will be identified in the first quarter of next year.
