Reinventing cities 3. The six areas that will participate in the new C40 call were presented at Palazzo Reale

Projects focused on affordable housing, aim to create 500 new subsidized apartments for rent at 500 euros per month – Introduction

Milan, May 5 2022 – Milan continues its commitment to urban regeneration together with C40, the network that includes 96 metropolises from all over the world committed to combating the climate and environmental emergency.

The six areas that will participate in the international "Reinventing cities" call promoted by C40 were presented this morning at Palazzo Reale, which involves the sale of abandoned or degraded sites to be used for environmental and urban regeneration projects, in compliance with the principles of sustainability and resilience.

The third edition of Reinventing cities, entitled "Reinventing home", has among its objectives that of creating 500 new homes at controlled prices, homes that will be placed on the rental market at a sum not exceeding 500 euros per month.

There are 12 cities, together with Milan, participating in the initiative around the world: Bologna, Bristol, Houston, Izmir, Lyon, Phoenix, Montreal, Naples, Rome, San Francisco and Sao Paulo.

These are the six areas selected for this edition: via Pitagora (Municipio 2), area of ​​4.800 m2 in co-ownership between the Municipality of Milan and MM SpA, in which the construction of social residential buildings (ERS) at affordable prices is planned, accompanied by shares of public residential buildings (ERP); Piazza Martesana (Town Hall 2), surface area of ​​11.700 m2 where the redevelopment of the space is envisaged through the inclusion of functional and social mixes with ERS rented at affordable prices; Zama-Salomone (Municipality 4), project in collaboration with ALER Milano which has made the surface right of an area of ​​16.000 m available for tender2 in which ERS accommodation will be built for rent and sale at controlled prices and for which the Municipality of Milan provides rewards for the use of offsite technologies; Abbiategrasso (Municipality 5), surface area of ​​7.940 m2 for a redevelopment of the space with affordable ERS, complementary functions and active ground floors; Bovisasca (Municipality 8), area of ​​1.880 m2 which will be connected to the adjacent transformation of the MoLeCoLa project and will also in this case include the creation of rented ERS; Certosa 186 (Municipality 8), area of ​​4.200 m2 where in addition to the inclusion of functional and social mixes with ERS quotas, depaving is also envisaged in order to enhance accessibility to the surrounding road axes.

The initiative was illustrated by representatives of the municipal administration and by Caterina Sarfatti, director of inclusive action for the climate of C40. Federico Aldini, president of the Order of Architects of Milan, participated together with them and will collaborate with the Municipality to deepen and disseminate the initiative among the various interested parties and will facilitate the formation of integrated teams; Domenico Ippolito, General Director of ALER Milan and Stefano Cetti, General Director of MM.
