Neighborhoods. A video to document the peripheral areas, the Einstein students among the public housing in southern Milan

The short film made in partnership with MM will be screened in the neighborhoods involved, starting today at Corvetto. Rabaiotti: “The city is changing, even in places far from the limelight”

Milan, 1 June 2019 – Three months of classroom workshops, 24 students involved, 11 associations and public bodies involved, 32 interviews carried out and, above all, 3 suburban neighbourhoods, with the faces and stories of their inhabitants: these are the numbers of the commitment led to the creation of the short film 'Miracolo a MilanoSud', made by a group of students from the Einstein high school in partnership, among others, with MM.

The neighborhoods that the children have chosen to talk about are those adjacent to their institute, Corvetto, Ponti and Chiaravalle, among the public housing, the shared vegetable gardens, the squares and the meeting places, where in recent years various social and cultural experiences have been promoted by citizens, associations and the municipal administration. In fact, in the three chosen neighbourhoods, projects linked to the 2018 Suburban Call promoted by the Municipality of Milan have been carried out in recent months, also documented in the video.

"I saw another Milan - intervenes the housing councilor Gabriele Rabaiotti - told from a young point of view, which gives us a city of hidden energies, a city that wants to change and that needs to find itself in the everyday life of living giving value to what happens. We also know the contradictions and we don't pretend not to see them, but the Milan of the miracle in the south wants redemption, to recover its values as a legacy that asks to be played with to build the city of tomorrow Milan is changing and will continue to change, even in places that remain far from the limelight. Starting from this belief, we must not stop working to give a new and better perspective to those who live far from the places of greatest attraction."

The initiative starts from a national call proposed by MIUR and MIBAC in June 2018, with the theme "Cinema 2030", i.e. cinema and the objectives of the 2030 Agenda (Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development is an action program for people, the planet and prosperity signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 UN member countries). The contribution paid to the selected projects, including that of the Einstein high school in Milan, was approximately 41 thousand euros, part of which was used for the renovation of the high school's Aula Magna, which was also transformed into a cinema room and therefore made multifunctional .

'Miracolo a MilanoSud' aims to educate children in and through cinema, with the acquisition of the skills necessary for the creation of audiovisual products, and offering them the opportunity to learn about the social fabric surrounding the school in a perspective of cohesion social and education for civil coexistence.

The students were involved in both an initial theoretical phase and a subsequent operational phase, of creating a real short film of around 20 minutes, accompanied throughout the entire process by the teacher Andrea Oldrini and the directors Luca Cusani and Elia Rollier. The screening of the students' work in the neighborhoods involved, with outdoor screenings and free access for those interested, will complete the project.

After a preview, which took place on May 23rd in the main hall of the high school, in which the housing councilor Gabriele Rabaiotti also participated, the first public screening will take place today at 16 pm in the Corvetto district at the market in Piazza Ferrara, during the party promoted from the Corvetto network by Casa per la Pace. On June 7th, at 21pm, it will be the turn of the courtyards of via del Turchino 20/22, curated by MM and Ospitaalità solidale. And finally, on June 14th at 21pm, the film will be screened in Chiaravalle, in the courtyard of the houses in via San Bernardo 32, during an event organized by the Chiamo, Chiaravalle Mondo project, also among the winners of the Call for Suburbs 2018.
