The tender for the redevelopment of the property in the Gallaratese area was awarded to Save the Children

Milan, 1 October 2021 - Creation of a new 'Light Point', dedicated to the prevention and fight against educational poverty, at the basis of profound social inequalities that the Covid-19 pandemic has further exacerbated, and a service hub dedicated to children and their families . A new headquarters that aims to offer educational, cultural and social opportunities made available free of charge to girls, boys and adolescents, and where individual support plans will also be developed for minors in certified conditions of economic hardship, which will be identified thanks to the territorial network , primarily the school and the relevant social services.

Save the Children Italia Onlus will lead the rebirth of the former school building in via Ojetti 20, in the Gallaratese area. The international organisation, which has been working for over a century to improve the lives of children around the world, has in fact been awarded the public notice for the redevelopment, which will include a complete renovation, and subsequently the management of the former school, through the institution of the concession of surface rights lasting 30 years.

This is a building built at the end of the 3.130s, which extends over a covered area of approximately one thousand mXNUMX with a single floor above ground, to which must be added a large appurtenant area for a total cadastral surface area of over XNUMX mXNUMX. and which in the past hosted a nursery school, a senior center, social services of various kinds and an ASL office. However, it has been unused for some time, also because it requires maintenance work, from static consolidation to plant adaptation.

Until now, no private entity had presented adequate projects regarding the valorisation and use of the spaces. In recent months, however, Save the Children has put forward the proposal for the creation of a headquarters for services aimed at young people, which the Administration has judged to be of public interest, thus constituting a useful reference for the construction of a tender for whose requests respected the principles of economy, effectiveness, equal treatment, transparency, environmental protection and energy efficiency.

There are already 26 'light points' throughout Italy, and in the city of Milan there are those in Quarto Oggiaro, in partnership with Acli Milano, and in Giambellino, in partnership with the Comunità del Giambellino social cooperative, which have so far reached over 1400 young people .
