From 14pm the CSI Milano sports village, at 19pm dinner in the street

Milan, September 30 2022 – Tomorrow, Saturday 1 October, will be a day of celebration for the San Siro district. From 14pm to 19pm the area around the former Selinunte covered municipal market will come alive, transforming into a "sports village" with free activities open to everyone and across all age groups.

Citizens will be able to take part in and experience many different sporting activities. Thanks to the collaboration with CSI Milano, soccer, basketball and volleyball fields, athletics tracks, inflatables and giant games, spaces for the playroom and for the little ones will be set up, as well as the provision of some tatami for martial arts and platforms for dance.

This day of celebration and sport was born following the recent award, through a temporary tender, of the former Selinunte covered market transformed for a year by CSI Milano, in partnership with Kayros and Consorzio Sir, into a place of sporting and social aggregation for the district. The day will end with the "dinner on the street" scheduled from 19 pm where everyone will be able to eat their own food brought from home in company.

"I firmly believe in the relaunch of the former covered market in Piazzale Selinunte which I hope will become a place of culture, sport and sociality for the entire San Siro district – declares Pierfrancesco Maran, councilor for Housing and Neighborhood Plan of the Municipality of Milan –. For This is why we have prepared a temporary call which, thanks to the support of CSI Milano, Kayros and Consorzio Sir, has made it possible to make numerous sporting and aggregative activities available to citizens in recent months and to create this splendid day aimed at adults and children. However, we do not want to stop here , for this reason we hope that, through the final tender which will close on October 31st, the structure can be completely and definitively redeveloped and made available to all the Milanese".

"This day will be an opportunity to launch in the neighborhood, but also throughout the city, the activities and ideas that we are implementing on the project of the former covered market in Piazzale Selinunte. It will be a beautiful day of aggregation that will end with a dinner during which we will share a single large table with all the participants" – declares Silvia Fossati, President of Municipality 7.

"It's time to go back to talking about the beautiful face of Piazza Selinunte – explains Massimo Achini, President of CSI Milano – and for this reason we organized this day with enthusiasm and emotion in a space that we imagine as a home for all those who care about this If it is true that generating sociality is what we care about, it is equally true that we want to do it with great teamwork that makes every association active in the territory feel at home."

Among the protagonists of the activities proposed daily within the former market there is also the Kayros Community founded by Don Claudio Burgio, chaplain of the Beccaria juvenile prison who explains: "We managed to enter into the daily life of the kids in the neighborhood and to trust each other of others. What is incredible and exciting, now they have started to propose projects to us, which we then realize together."
