An eco-sustainable building, with windows, of approximately 3.500 square meters with spaces also open to the territory

Milan, November 12 2019 – The construction site for the reconstruction of the property in via Livigno 1, in Municipality 9, was inaugurated today, which the Together To Go Onlus (TOG) Foundation obtained as a concession for thirty years, through a tender, from the Municipality of Milan. The former municipal showers, unused for several years, will become "The City of Fragility", home to the new center of excellence and reference point for disabilities in the city of Milan.

In the new eco-sustainable glass building, which will have a surface area of 3.500 square metres, all the activities of the TOG Foundation centre, which currently operates in the Famagosta area, will be transferred, expanding the spaces available and strengthening the services for young patients (today there are around 120), for their families and for staff training. There will be many new features: from the clinic with specialized doctors to the hydrotherapy pool, from the BES after-school programs to training courses, from the fab-lab space to the cafeteria. Services dedicated therefore also to the entire neighborhood.

The project also includes workshops for the acquisition and improvement of professional skills for young people - useful for job placement, with the aim of continuing the path with them beyond middle school - and an information center for the specialization of operators clinical and educational in the field of disability and educational fragility.

“TOG's work is an investment in the future through an investment in the present – comments deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo -. We can therefore only be proud that a space that has been unused for too long is now coming back to life with a project like this, dedicated to those who most need care and attention, but also open to the entire territory. On this occasion I want to thank the TOG Foundation on behalf of the entire Administration for the daily commitment and dedication that it already offers free of charge to many children and families".

The TOG Foundation was founded in 2011 in Milan where it founded a center of excellence for the rehabilitation of children and young people suffering from complex neurological pathologies, in particular infantile cerebral palsy and genetic syndromes with mental retardation.

Built in 1960 to house a section of public showers, the building on the corner between via Livigno and viale Jenner has been unused since 2010. The architectural project involves the demolition and reconstruction of the building which, while retaining its current footprint, will have a floor in addition and will add a new symmetrical wing to the short side of Viale Jenner. The work is expected to be completed in spring 2021.
