Milan, November 10 2019 – The new tender for the management of 19 vacant council-owned units, already excluded from the ERP regulation, which are located in mixed condominiums (buildings where private and council houses coexist), between the Baggio, Forze Armate and Gallaratese districts, is online.

The tender, which will remain open until 10 January 2020, is aimed at private social entities and other accredited sector operators, called upon to present an activity plan which firstly involves the redevelopment of the housing, and then their assignment to families in declared housing difficulty, with attention also to the social support activities of the hosted families.

“This is also a way to respond to the need for housing in the city – declares the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti – and to give new life to affordable rent, offering and trying to push a third way which is positioned between public and free market housing".

The apartments will be assigned under concession for use for a maximum of 20 years and must be allocated to citizens who, with an ISEE up to the maximum limit of 26 thousand euros, do not have the requirements to be able to apply for public housing but, at the same time , they are not even able to access the private market, because it is too expensive: the rent, in fact, cannot exceed 65 euros/square meter (agreed rent). A portion of accommodation will be reserved for families in housing emergency, identified by the Municipality of Milan.

This is a further tranche, the eighth, of the operation which started in the summer of 2016: an experimental management model developed by the Housing Management, which involves the launching of public tenders, each of which is dedicated to a small number of accommodations, in order to also give the opportunity to participate to small and medium-sized cooperatives, organisations, associations and foundations, often those closest to the territory and its inhabitants.

So far the tenders have allowed the recovery and reuse of around 200 homes in different neighborhoods of the city, such as Barona-Famagosta, Vigentino, Mecenate-Hungary, Turro, Giambellino-Lorenteggio, Niguarda, with an overall investment by third sector associations of over 3 million euros.
