Milan, September 14 2021 – The supply of natural and sparkling water has been activated in these days in eight new water houses: piazza Gramsci, via S. Rita (Barona), via Suzzani (Bicocca), piazzale Cuoco, piazza Fortunato (Bruzzano in front of the Galeazzi), piazza Scolari (Trenno), Giussani park (ex Solari) and via Chiostergi (Quinto Romano).

The location and activation plan of the water houses wanted by the municipal administration and implemented by MM SpA has made it possible to go from the 22 houses present in the area in May 2020 to the 47 active today; a further five installations will be carried out by October in via Guastalla, Villa Finzi (Gorla), viale Cermenate, via Sardegna, via Marazza (Bovisasca) to achieve a network of 52 water houses in the neighborhoods of Milan.

In 2021, water houses supplied more than 3 million 360 thousand liters of water, of which 1,9 million still and 1,4 million sparkling. The average consumption of water houses open throughout the period was 572 liters per day, of which 267 still and 305 sparkling.

The houses with the highest consumption reach around 900 liters per day and are those in densely populated neighborhoods or near high schools or universities, for example in Bicocca, Pratocentenaro, Ortica, Padova/Palmanova, Gallaratese.

In 2020 (considering the closure to the public due to Covid from March to June) the water houses had supplied 3.992.409 liters of water (2,3 still and 1,6 sparkling), avoiding the production of 123.765 kg of CO2 and saving the use of 106.464 PET.

The new dispensers are equipped with multi-parametric probes for real-time control of water quality. Thanks to these probes, the control points positioned along the distribution network will increase, adding to the online quality systems at the water injection stations into the network and allowing greater control over the onset of any anomalies to be guaranteed (online with the principles set out in the Water Safety Plans).

Each dispenser is equipped with a support surface with a tray connected directly to the drain to avoid the leakage of water which could freeze in the winter season, and a UV lamp on the dispensing spout which guarantees protection from retro-contamination and continuous sanitization during dispensing.

Citizens can use the service via health card and take up to six liters of water a day and can choose between a "bottle" supply of half a litre, one liter and 1,5 litres. The water houses are also accessible to people with disabilities, are equipped with a low electricity consumption LED night lighting system and four security cameras against vandalism.
