Milan, January 26 2022 – The complex in Via Ucelli di Nemi in the Ponte Lambro district was cleared out today. The operations coordinated and carried out by the agents of the State Police of the Mecenate Commissariat with the local police began at 8:30.

An intervention prepared in recent weeks thanks to the collaboration between the State Police, the Municipality of Milan (Security, Local Police, Housing and Neighborhood Plan, Environment departments), Municipality 4, NUIR and AMSA.

The building has been reported by residents as a place of drug dealing, illegal occupations and waste abandonment, resulting in situations of degradation and insecurity for the entire neighbourhood. Following the action of the State Police and the local Police, Amsa operators were able to intervene to begin the cleaning and removal operations of the abandoned objects, which will continue for several weeks. The structure will be made safe with masonry works, as it is noted that the current barriers do not provide a sufficient deterrent to unauthorized access. This work will continue until the beginning of March.

"The intervention is an important first step for the future of the Ponte Lambro district which – declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Security – deserves attention for safety and the fight against degradation and above all this opportunity for rebirth".

The complex in via Ucelli di Nemi 23, 24, 25 and 26 is made up of two buildings with six floors above ground and is part of an urban regeneration process followed by the housing and neighborhood planning councilor Pierfrancesco Maran who, after years of non-use forced, involves the completion of the works and the construction of a university residence serving the Milanese universities, laboratories for activities aimed at the world of business, start-ups and job placement, as well as cultural activities for the entire neighborhood , social and sporting.

"The future of Ponte Lambro also depends on the future that we will be able to give to this structure so that it can be used both by students and by the many residents who are looking for places for socializing and sport - states Pierfrancesco Maran, Councilor for Housing and Neighborhood Plan of the Municipality of Milan – In the next few weeks we will publish a tender to grant the property under concession for the next 30 years and thus begin work by the end of the year".
